Default Lockers not cheating, just opening up options.

Went to my first ORV park this weekend. So I got to see what lockers do in person.
Well it was night and day. The guys with lockers just climbed.
Wish I would have a got a Rubi !!!!!

I can't really attest to this when it comes to a JK but my old TJ didn't have lockers and I was able to follow the guys who did have them in MOST situations. If you're relatively new to wheeling chances are you aren't going to end up in the situations where you need them. I have a tendency to get in over my head though and the only reason lockers weren't there was $$$$.

That being said, I did spring for a Rubi this go around b/c when you need em, you need em. And unfortunately if you don't know the trail well, you don't always know you're gonna need em ahead of time. As someone else suggested though, ya might look into picking up a front axle off a Rubi. Probably won't be too hard to find one, and you're gonna spend roughly the same amount of money as upgrading your stock one. Just food for thought.

I run the E-Lockers front and rear...My Dana 30 is sleeved, gusseted, RCV axle shafts...I offroad alot, never had an issue with my Dana 30. I run 4.88 gears locked quite frequently on 35 inch tires....It performs flawlessly.

My Sahara also has the Rubi 4:1 Transfer Case...I can go anywhere that a Rubi can...

Lockers will make things easier thats all...Sometimes I leave them off to make it a little more difficult.

Answer to your original question...YES..Buy lockers

Lockers allow you to go smooth and steady over some obstacles that the guys with open diffs have to power and bounce over. The problem is a lot of throttle and bouncing leads to breaking stuff and a higher likelihood you'll end up on your side or your roof.

4 hi allows you to have 4 wheel drive traction at higher speeds, up to 55mph I think is what the factory says. 4 Lo switches the gearing to to a much lower gear ratio which provides more low end power but at the cost of speed. You really shouldn't be going any more than 25mph in 4 Lo. In short they both give you 4 wheel driving power, but 4 Lo provides a better gear ratio for crawling in the rocks or navigating other finesse obstacles.

echoing the grimjeeper above, in 4lo if you're on a bumpy or rolling terrain, you're less likely to over throttle and lurch forward. or rather, you may still over throttle, but as a result you're less likely to lurch. if that makes sense. keeps things more smooth.

enjoy the wheel'n!
