How to Justify the regearing expense
$1,300 is cheap. I live in MD and I couldn't find gears and carrier installed for under $2,000. I closed my wife who is a jeep driver with the fact that bigger tires will put a lot more stress on the gears and can cause a breakdown. She agreed and also asked what else we should do to protect the jeep. I ordered gussetts and intake. She is happy so far even thou it was a little over 2K. I am having the gears installed right now and cant wait to get it back. I went to 4.88's since I am running 35"s. East coast gear supply is very cheap on the gears if you need somewhere to order good quality stuff.

Thanks for the advise.
I drove the Jeep today and never used 6th gear for more than a few seconds. I did have a stretch where we were going 65-70 and 5th held the cruise control but that was pushing it.
I guess I need to lay down the law

I'm just going to say we need to change the gears and rationalize the MPG increase and the reduced wear and stress on the gears and engine, as well as, general safety for the 2 children that are driven to school daily in the Jeep.
Again thanks

Gearing is expensive..... so is a winch, so are nice bumpers. Explain it as its no different than dropping a ton on something else. It's just not something you see, but you still get great benefit from it. Well, that's how I'll justify it to my finance approver!
6 speed.
5.13's would be great around town, so when you go off road you have a killer low first gear but other than that, they are way too much for a commuter vehicle. Some people might not mind it on theirs but it is all about preference. If I was to do it again the most I would go is 4.56's
4wheel drive hardware has a tire diameter/gear ratio chart that can also give you an idea of what rpm you would be at while traveling @ 65mph. For example, the 5.13's w/35's would give you 3201 rpm's @ 65mph which is described as, Towing and Power, Poor Fuel Economy.

What you need to do is call your wife's best friend. My wife's best friend is David Yurman. Get something nice from David then get the chap stick and smooch that ass till your gears are in.
