Default How to keep the front coil springs seated?

OK, so I have searched the forums for over an hour now and I can't find any pics on a solution for keeping the front coils seated under full flex. I have a 2.5 inch Tereflex lift and Tereflex quick disconnects in the front. My problem is that my front springs come unseated from the lower mounts under full flex and you can basically pull them out with very little effort. Has anyone come up with a solution for this? The lift is installed correctly with all of the parts used and double checked. Any input, with pics please, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You could install shorter shocks to limit flex, you could add straps to limit flex or you can add coil retainers.

You are no longer stock so sometimes you have to engineer stuff your self. But thats the fun of it.

I suggest that you do address the issue because if you pop a coil out on the trail it would be a PITA.

Good luck and have fun wheeling

Thanks for the input! We went to the junk yard and pulled some spring retainer clips from an old cherokee and we are going to try to install them this weekend, but there is little to no room on the front coil mounts to drill and tap those bolts. Just looking for some different ideas... one of my friends said to just tack weld them in place . See why I am here.....

what shocks are you running? I had the 2.5 BB with the shock extensions on my first JK and I had no issues at all, my droop was very limited by the shocks.

But too much flex is way better then not enough flex

I have the Tereflex 2.5 inch spring lift and the 9550 shocks. It only happens when my front sway bar is disconnected. The shocks extend enough to allow the springs to be pulled out, but it really bugs me that sometimes the spring will reseat itself on top of the spring seat and pops back in to place after a little bit of wheeling. I have never had one pop out, but I just feel that it is a matter of time.

Yeah, the brake lines and abs lines are tight, but that is max flex. Next mod is stainless braided brake lines all the way around, but I am planning a trip tomorrow and would like to see if there is any other way to secure those springs. I was very pleased with the amount of suspension travel, but it has presented some problems that I need to address. I have done some trail riding and never even got close to max flex, this was a test trip and we tried to get it flexed as much as possible. If you look at the top of the spring in the last pic, you can see the top of the spring has come unseated. This was after we gave it a little tug to seat it back on the bottom mount. There is no way it will pop out from the top because of the bumpstop and the spring guide, but the bottom is just that little stub and I would prefer it to stay seated on the bottom rather than the top.

TTT, I've got the same problem. I've had several suggetions. The most logical one so far is the limiting straps being that when the shock is full out (without anything to prevent this of course), the axle is being held up by the piston in the shock. Heard that wasn't something to depend on. I like the tack welding idea the best...ish, mainly because of ease of doing it, and it's not comming undone... right up till the time I want it undone and it doesn't then either. So far I am leaning toward a retaining plate of some sort, something I could bend up and weld on the seat. Has anyone had this problem and actually fixed it?

Hey guys, all good stuff! I hadn't thought about the amount of compression under full stuff. Kindof nixs the idea of coil spacers up front. Great thread!
