Default How much backspacing do i need?

Hey All,

I have 35'' tires on stock 17'' rubicon rims. I have also needed to use spidertrax spacers. I am wanting to upgrade my rims, so i dont need to use spacers, and also be able to mount the full size spare on the stock carrier WITHOUT using a spacer of some sort. What backspacing should i be looking for so i can do all of the above. I am wanting to keep the spare as close to the body as possible, as i have used a spacer, and it sets it out way too far that it bounces around.
Please let me know your suggestions, post pics, all the good stuff.

Thanks guys!

I think 4.5" of backspacing is the consensus. I have 4.5" backspaced rims (albeit it on 32" tires) and there perfect. I'm not sure about fitting the 35 on the stock spare carrier, but I'm pretty sure with that amount of backspacing it would work.

i personally would run 35s on your stock tire carrier. you are going to end up bending or cracking the welds on your tailgate... then again. that is just me.

Concerning fitment only, 4.5" BS on a 35" tire will not be a problem in the spare. The BS change moves the tire farther out, not closer to the tailgate.

hey,
Thank you. i just wasnt sure what number of backspacing i would need. Currently, with the stock carrier, and stock rim, i need the extra couple inches (thats what she said) so i can bolt it on.

hey man,
thanks for the advise. when i go wheeling, i will remove the spare. i just want to have the spare on for street driving, and it will go in the back when on the trail. dont want to pay 2000 for a carrier....yet.
thanks for the response

Stock is 6.5 so you can judge from that since you have a reference.
