Default How to remove the steering stablizer bolt

I went to replace my 2010 JK Unlimited steering stabilizer with the OME stablizer with relocation bracket. I started to remove the old shock, but quickly found that the bolt (highlighted in red in the photo) could not be extracted without removing the steering linkage as well. Turning the tires provides some additional clearance, but not enough to remove the bolt. Is there a trick other than completely unbolting the steering linkage?

Jacking up the frame on that side should do it.

I didn't think of that. I am replacing the disconnects as well, so disconnecting them should help as well.

I agree. Jack up the drivers side and it should move the linkage out of the way. Or if you really want to get creative and are not reusing the bolt...you can pull it out halfway and then cut it with a sawzall. It is just a 2 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch grade 5 bolt anyways. Costs about 3 bucks to replace with a grade 8 bolt from lowes.

Just rotate the tie rod and you'll have enough clearance.

I would put a 3" lift on it and you will have more than enough clearance.
