Are you going to the desert?
Are you going farther than the range of the stock fuel tank?
A combination of both?
Ask youself the right questions and you will have your answer.

Some things to consider:
- 8 gallons of water is the recommended amount for one person for 8 days.
- 8 gallons of fuel is about one day running off-road.
- You can carry water in jugs in the Jeep if needed. Fuel, not so much.
Great question!
You should consider your needs and uses.
A person can camp with 1 gallon of water/day. The water can be carried interior.
I have 2 blitz 6 gallon jugs that fit perfectly behind the front seats. This also keeps the weight low as it is on the floor. I have never run out of water even on 10 day trips.
The fuel must be carried outboard for safety reasons. Consider your distances to be traveled between stops and how your are driving (4Lo vs 2wd) between those stops.
I have run 180 miles of 4Hi over 4 days on a tank of gas (but carried 2-5 gallon cans just in case)
My advise:
I would go all fuel cans with the rotopax on the exterior. I am guessing this is for a rear bumper mount.
Then look at ways to mount water rotopax on the interior (i.e. rear fender wells). Rotopax water jugs are high in price in my opinion. It's just water and there are tons of ways to carry it. Look at MSR bladders ($$), blitz plastic cans($), or even collapsable jugs($). Ideally you want to keep your weight low. Getting creative under the rear seats is the best way to carry water. The collapsable jugs are best as you can compress the air out of them to eliminate the sloshing sound that occurs when they become empty. Also water jugs are best if they are smaller due to when you use them you are not trying to fill a cup with a jug. I am a huge fan of the MSR hydromedary due to their versatility.
