How are stubby bumpers for hitting deer?
I seem to hit a few deer a year, about 2 years ago I hit a cow with my Rover (no damage due to good bumper)
I like the looks of the rugged ridge modular stubby and the LOD stubby with the upper hoop. I am worried that I will get a fender ripped off when I hit another deer with out a full width bumper. Any one have any experience with various jeep bumpers and deer?

Just have to try to center up on the deer when you go out road hunting, the stubby poses more of a challenge than a full lenght bumper.
Try to hit them in the head if you can, doesn't ruin as much meat that way.

Personally, though I'm not a hunter, I would think sitting in a tree at 4:30am smeared from head to toe with deer piss and war paint, and holding a very large rifle, would be the commonly accepted method of killing deer. At least thats how they do it in Texas from what I hear.....
Your way seems a lot cleaner and warmer, and you dont have to drag the thing nearly as far though !!

honestly, it is all luck. Depends on the positions of the vehicle and the deer. even a full length bumper isnt going to prevent damage in certain instances. But it will help. If you have that many deer in the area, you may want to consider those deer whistles to put on your vehicle. Havent used them so cant comment on how the do/dont work. Other than that, try not to hit them.

I've got a Rugged Ridge stubby with stinger. I hit a dear a few years back in an XJ and it did some pretty narly damage but it was still drivable. I'm hoping that if it ever happens again, with the stubby at 55 mph I should be able to cut the deer in half
If it is a concern, get a full width bumper (like the ARB, etc..). I hit a deer with my Tacoma a few years back and it was close to totaled - I had a full-width Warn Transfomer grille guard on it. I hit the deer with the front left corner of the truck. Hood, fender, battery box, AC condenser, radiator and frame all needed work (yeah, it bent the frame).
If you have a stubby and hit the deer, it will most likely take out the grille, hood, fender, etc.

With a stubby, if you hit the deer you might not be able to drive out of it, if it takes out steering linkages. At the very least, your flare will be ripped off. Of course, a full width might not do much for that.
I would say get as much bumper as you can if you're hitting that many.
