How wide a tire on stock rims?
I have a 2012 JK with 18" stock Goodyear's. 255/70/18. If I stick with the stock rim, how wide a tire can I go with? 295? 305? 315? This is my everyday vehicle but I want a little larger footprint for the winter months and I'm switching back to the BFG All-Terrain KO2 when I finally get this all figured out. Thanks.

Click on the Specs list for the specific tire, it will show a 'recommended rim width range'. Many people are running 12.50 wide tires on the narrow stock rims without issue. And others have found that some tire shops will refuse to mount wide tires on rims that are narrower than the mfg's recommendation. Call around and check.
Depending on the tire size you choose, you may also need to think about clearance with the flares/frame/links/air dam, etc., since you are not moving the bigger tires out any.

You can put any width tire on the stock wheel that you want, your wear pattern will just change. I have 315 bfg all terrains on my stock 17's and the wear more in the middle.

As mentioned, running a tire on too narrow a wheel can cause the tread to crown and wear faster in the middle. Most times you can lower the air pressure to correct this, if you haven't went way to wide with your tire choice. If you are gonna keep these wheels forever, a 285 or 295mm width tire is as wide as I'd go.
