HYPERTECH is it worth the money????
Is anyone running the Hypertec, if so wich one and is it worth the money?? Can you tell what size tires you are running and if it really gave noticeable HP gains or helped out w/ gas milage?? Any help would be great beore i take the plunge..... Or is there any other product out there w/ a bigger bang for the money?? Thanks!!!

It it doesn't work, search for a thread entitled "First Impressions on Hypertech Max Power"
Bottom line, is that it works fine, so long as you don't have very high expectations of it giving your JK a ton of low end power. It does give a bit better throttle response that gives the feel of a bit more power. It does provide more power at the top end, where you don't need it. It adjusts for gears/tires just fine, which is the main reason I bougt it. I'm not going to complain about it because I had pretty low expectations to begin with, but it is a lot of money to toss out there, especially if you think it is going to give monster hp gains, because then you will be sorely disappointed.

You'll need to buy a super charger if you really want appreciable power gains. The Hypertech will do its job at reprogramming for larger tires which helps in of itself. It also helps throttle response. Some people report minor mileage and power gains, but it may be a placebo effect.
The bottom line is that most of the systems are computer controlled, so the better data you feed the computer the better the computer can operate the Jeep.

No personal experience with a CAI on the Jeep, but from my personal opinion, based on years of tuning Hondas, everything is tied together. CAI will help, but unless the computer recognizes it, and it is matched with an appropriate exhaust, you probably won't notice all that much improvement in power just doing either one of them (alot of the annoying Honda "Tuners" forget this and throw together crap). Together they can make a noticeable improvement. It's kind of a three part deal, more air in means more fuel, i.e. re-calibrated fuel tables, means more gasses leaving. I am currently toying with the idea of a standalone EFI control system for the Jeep, but I haven't put that much real effort into trying to figure out how to do it. If you are looking for bang for your buck, tgrt has a good solution... forced induction. Or, maybe engine swap. With the Hypertech, the way I look at it is that I got it for adjusting for gears/tires, and the minor performance gains are an added benefit, but if you are going for performance, you can spend your money wiser.

When I upgraded my gears I was getting 12-13mpg average. With the Hypertech I'm getting 17mpg flat. Of course the better throttle response, the improvement in shift points, and the speedometer/odometer correction. So if you ask me is it worth it? I say hell yeah if you have 35" tires and have upgraded your gears. You say you have 33" tires so the Hypertech might not be for you. In your case go with a chip, CAI or a exhaust system oooor all of the above

Hope this helps.

After putting on my 33's, bumpers, winch, and roof rack on I was getting mid 14 mpg. After a Flowmaster muffler, XDI intake, and Hypertech programmer I'm getting low 17 mpg driving the same speeds and routes. I also notice a big difference in power and shift point difference over stock. That's on premium fuel setting, but the mileage gain and power difference is worth the difference in fuel price. So all the parts together it was worth the money for me.
