I, as well called a local big 4x4 shop and they seem to not know much to be honest... they way to do it is to do your research for the best price of the part you want and get it the best way you can, if you can install yourself , great.. if not go to any local small mechanic shop (better if you know someone) and they will quote you half the price of most things since thier overhead is a LOT less...
since i'm a lazy basterd sometimes i wanted to check how much it will be to install a leveling kit, 4x4 shop quoted me $300 , local shop said they will charge me the $80 an hour they normally charge for labor and put it on in less then an hour.. just my .02c..

- ECTED Electrically Activated Lockers
(I like the idea of an e-locker that defaults to limited slip when not engaged and
im not crazy about air lines, getting pinched or snagged)
Do a search on those before you commit. I like the 'idea' as well, but clutch driven lockers may not be the best use of your money.

- TeraFlex 3" LCG Long Arm Suspension System with SpeedBumps
(my concern is the $3,500 price tag)
Plenty of less expensive options out there, but that's a solid lift if you want a long arm. Search a bit, though. There were some people having issues with the ca frame mounts at one point. (I believe that TF has corrected the issue, but it's worth a few minutes to check it out)

- Not sure if drive shafts, cv joints, or yoke eliminators are needed
With an unlimited, the rear shaft should be ok. But you might budget for a new front double cardan at some point. (sye's are not used on jk's)

- axle gussets and sleeves, maybe even a pair of the Reid knuckles?
Gussets at a minimum, but sleeves and knuckles wouldn't hurt. Then again, if you have any thoughts of upgrading to a front 44 at some point, skip them and just run it til it breaks.

And what was the shop trying to talk you out of or in to?

I totally agree. Forget that shop. Call Dave at northridge!

I would rather not bad mouth any shop on the basis of a single sales persons behavior. The primary reason I chose to call that shop was their history and being a reputable or well known place.

If think if they wanted the business they would have acted like it. I appreciate the comments I will look into each of those points.

I called a 4x4 shop in Clemson SC that I will hold back their name. When I spoke to the sales guy I told him of my plan and price range. He said to send him a list of parts and a general usage of my jeep.

I was a bit put off when he informed that I "bought the wrong jeep" by not getting a rubicon and I told him I simply planed to replace the drivetrain anyway so not waste the extra $.

I get an email back with nothing but a price of the part and installation cost. Two of the 5 parts were not what I had planned on and no reason for the switch.

My question to you all is simply, do I call Northridge and order the parts I want and have researched and install all that I am able to myself. Or do I continue to try and deal with the less than inviting shop I called.

Thank you and please any suggestions or input is appreciated.
Thank you
Trey
Well shucks, I know what shop you are talking about and I was thinking about getting some install stuff done there. I guess I should look around more first. But yeah, from what I have heard David at Northridge is a straight up guy with great prices.

I bought my parts at Northridge and they performed the majority of the work - lift, gears, bumpers, even installed my Ripp supercharger. I have no complaints. Pm if you're interested in contact info.
Hey, I am down in Clemson and know the shop too. Could you PM me the shop you are talking about?

Thanks,

Wasn't asking you to bash anyone. My comment was geared toward knowing 'why' they made their recommendations.

Have they had bad experiences with certain products and are steering people to better options?
(ex. - ecteds use clutches, clutches wear out and are not repairable, so the whole unit needs to be replaced.)

Or are they simply getting a better mark-up for talking you into certain products.
(ex. - 4WP owns procomp, so their sales guys push procomp lifts.)

Knowing why suggestions are made is a good thing...

I see now, There was no "suggestions" made it was simply a disregard of my original list with no explanation. When I contacted them again to explain the answer I was told I had listed the incorrect parts.

I did send a follow up email to the sales person and the response was simply the incorrect part number again. Literally the entire response was:
"part no 1955000 long arm upgrade kit."

After I called and emailed to get such a poor response with no effort from the sales person I do not want to continue the effort. I would have thought for the money I am going to spend any shop would be interested.

Maybe my expectations are simply too high

northridge is good plus free shipping I bought all the parts for my jeep first then shopped around for a shop to just install it all, as I got the prices from around the city I went to the dealer ship to see if they would match the labor price of the lowest price and they did, which I was really happy with guys that do nothing but work on jeeps at a jeep dealer.

Trey, Trey, Trey... Yes. Your expectations are too high. It's okay though! Keep them up there because it's gonna feel great when someone finally meets your expectations. You just have to live by the adage, "anything worth doing well is worth doing yourself" until then brother! I go through this situation all the time.
