Default Improve ride quality?

Finally just got my TF 2.5" coil lift with shock adaptors installed. I just got my steering centered and have taken it for a few test drives now. I like how it handles, everything feels nice and tight, but when I hit a bump I can hear a thunk in the back end. I have an X and I'm wondering if maybe these cheapo shocks aren't the right thing to be using? Do you guys think that buying some better shocks will smooth out the ride over bumps (sorry I really know nothing about vehicles).

Also, I think I might have over extended the passanger rear shock while I was doing the install, I was going from side to side at first and I lowered the drivers side down all the way without taking the shock out of the passanger side, and I could hear the thing make a noise like water suctioning or something kinda weird. wondering if I broke my shock a little?

Thanks.

If your running the factory shocks then you may want to replace them, they just arent all that good on an X. The extenders are fine though, you can probably get a lightly used or direct take off set of rubi shocks for cheap or free. As for the "thunk", especially over a speed bump I would be more inclined to think something is loose. Check your track bar, shock extensions, and control arms and make sure they are all torqued correctly.

You can also check the bushing on your shocks, if you twisteed it alot you might have torn one up (causing it to fall out). If you did you can replace the bushing, but for the hastle of finding a new one you mind as well get new shocks.

Do you have aftermarket wheels/tires? Do you have one mounted on the tailgate? If so, it could be that your new tire isn't resting on the tailgate bumpstops andit rattles when going over a bump.

Otherwise check out the above posts... you might want to consider longer shocks.

Those stock X shocks are crap. I gave one of the members here my gas charged shocks I got with the tow package, same as Rubi shocks, just black instead of red. He said it rode like a Cadillac after. If you busted your shock, it'll be leaking a little oil. Get some new ones. Check for tightness on what the above has said, plus your shock mounts. Personally, I don't care for the extensions.

Oh, the sound your shock was making is normal for a hydro shock to make when extending

Also , you said you didn't take the shock off? Upper extensions go on the rear shocks. If you didn't put those on, your shock is bottoming and there's gonna be your clunk.

Thanks for the ideas, i'm going to go for a drive in a bit and get a better idea of how it is handleing.

I have the bump stops facing forwards, so I guess that is the correct position for them.

I did take off the shock and install the adaptors. I just took of the driver shock and sway bar link and lowered that side before I took off the passanger side stuff, and I think it just pulled a bit hard on it. who knows...

I'm just glad that epic ordeal is over

Mine was makin a noise similar to that when I got done with it. KNow what it was? The frikkin rear fenders shakin around. Since the ride is a little more harsh, it showed up something that the stock suspension didn't have. Get somebody to knock on the rear fenders while you're in the Jeep. I bet that's it.
