Improving Gas Mileage
I have 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers and I am looking for an alternative. My Jeep is my daily driver and I need to look to alternatives. Tires are my obvious choice in improving gas mileage but I want something that looks good but is still practical....any suggestions?
Also wondering about Chips, Intake and Exhausts.....are any of these proven methods of increasing gas mileage?
Any Help is appreciated. Thanks!

Get a new car! Thats what i did. I have 35" nittos and i get around 12-13 mpg and before the tires i only got 16-17 mpg average. i watched local craigs list daily for about a month or two till i found someone desperate to dump a car for cheap. Found a 91 accord with 135k miles that needed wheel bearings, axle shafts, brakes and exhuast, got it for $500.00. I did everything myself except for exhaust. i ony got $1500 into the sucker including purchase, repairs, plates and registration. She gets 25-29 mpg and i have since put 13000 miles on it!
Its something to consider

crank your tire psi up to 34.
You'll wear the tires out but will get 20-21 mpg highway.
I got 15 mpg at 28 psi from Miami to Savannah.
I got 21 mpg at 34 psi from Savannah to New York City.
Running 35" KM2s.

Not to Sure about your budget.... But the Mickey Thompson ATZ looks pretty smooth and is still aggressive. The MTZ is more aggressive but prob a lil worse on gas... either way they will be smoother, quieter and better on gas. Also look at the procomp x terains. I have had great luck with those tires. Quiet and smooth.

I agree with ARM2004. If you're looking to squeeze mpg's out of the JK it's a futile effort. Re-gearing, lighter on the throttle, and superchips Mileage tune MAYBE will get you +2-5 AT BEST. That's around $1500-2000 later. If you plan on getting these upgrades anyways it's just an added plus.
If you nab a Hemi conversion you could get 16-19mpg, but that's over $15k invested.
I'm saving up for a motorcycle, 40mpg for ~$4000 and a fun alternative vehicle sounds good to me.

Yeah I am looking for a Civic or something, but I am also tired of the Mud Terrains. My kids are gabbing all the time and I cant even hear them. When I am alone its fine, just crank the radio, windows down and its all good.
How about the Terra Grapplers? anyone use them? like em? Seems like the cheapest solution to a good looking all terrain.

If your main intent in improving gas mileage is to save money, I suggest you do the math and work in the cost of whatever solution you consider, to see how long it would take you to start seeing a return on your investment. Even the measely $300 cost of a tuner for 2 mpg's could take you a year to start seeing some ROI. From the above suggestions, it seems "increase psi to 34" and "easy on the throttle" would get you a few mpg's at no cost.

I would get a beater vehicle for $1500-$2000.
Having a Jeep for your daily driver and running 35" tires is nuts.
I've got the Rubicon take-offs which I think are 31" tires and I am lucky to average over 325 miles a tank.

I am in the same boat.. Gas is killing me.. LOVE the JK (Cindy) and don't plan on parting with her.. I am looking at the K&N intakes.. They seem pretty legit, and everyone raves about them (horsepower, gass mileage, etc.).. Also looking at exhausts, just to keep everything flowing nice.. The Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's seem like a good choice to replace your Nittos.. Less agressive, but agressive enough.. BTW the best I ever got on a tank of gas in my JK was 275 miles, and that was a long trip w/ stock 31's and cruise control.. If all else fails, I'm just gonna pick up a late 90's early 2000's beater and make it an A-B car.. Don't want that.. The JK is my favorite thing in the world!! On a sidenote; I got 4-5 Jeep waves cruising with the freedom tops off today.. I dig our Jeep thing!!
