Default Installing axle sleeves

I have a question regarding the cleaning the debri out of the axle tubes when installing inner sleeves. Couldn't you install the sleeve into the axle before you drill the holes and then drill slowly until you penetrate the axle tube and just begin to drill into the inner sleeve (slight dimple in the sleeve so that you completely clear the axle tube) and then simply plug weld the holes.
This way there is no way for the shavings to enter the axle.
I have been thinking about this for some time, am I missing something?

The tubes are so thin that you wouldn't get much of a hole drilling with the sleeves inside. Just pull the axles out, use a stiff wire and tie a shop towel or other rag on the end of it. Secure it so that it could never slip off. Use enough rag that if fills the tube, but not too tight. When you're done drilling, pull the wire out. It will start to bunch up and be snugger than when it went in, which will help remove all of the shavings. Everything came out with mine. If there was still something in the tube, just bend a small copper tube into a 90 degree, put in the hole next to the differential and blow it out with an air hose. The whole process is pretty easy, but takes some time and a good welder.

to be able to get the full 1/2" hole, you have to be able to fully punch through the axle tube with the drill bit, if not, then you could possibly end up with 1/2" outside and less than 1/4" on the inside.

im starting my install on wednesday and doing it myself, with a buddy doing the plug welding. evo's instructions are pretty straight forward but if u need me to, i will take pics and a write up as i go
