Default intake box

Ok, i have done many of searches and I can't find the answer I am looking for.

I am looking into fabbing my snorkel setup. The setup will be closely based to the river raider setup. My question is about the air box. Is that a peice river raider makes or is it from a certain vehicle. I just cant justify spending 500 plus dollars when I can make it my own. No I will not just be copying someone else's design.

Home made snorkels are most the time ugly. Think about it, and good luck!

anyone else with a serious response please. Most amatuer snorkels are ugly. Helps to have a metal fab as a friend.

I think that is their own box they use. The time and effort spent in making your own snorkel is usually more than most of us want to tackle. If you don't mind giving a lot of effort and time to make your own then go at it. I have seen some really awful but functional snorkels. The AEV without the bowl looks very nice to me and is probably the way I will go. I might even make my own intake scoop for it. I saw a great write up about how to fiberglass one that looked pretty straightforward but would take some time. Good luck.

I'm planning on a custom H1 hummer style snorkel. I wheel on tight trails and don't want to worry about a 500 dollar intake getting beat off. Also i think it'll be a little more subtle and not take over the look of the jeep as many do. Won't be as high, but i don't plan to go over my hood in water...just wanna keep it away from any spray up through the engine bay or tires...

I'll be relocating the battery to where the stock box is now and putting a custom aluminum box and cone filter in it's place. Then a small hole though the firewall and another up and out though the removable panel that covers the wiper motor and heater intake. Just need to find the time, newborns can be time consuming!

You might consider using a box from another vehicle. Measure up what you need and then check out your local car salvage yards. For sure you'll find something that you can adapt.

There are some universal air boxes out there, but they're expensive: (google "universal airbox")

K&N Apollo Universal Cold Air Intake System:

Nothwithstanding, I would have to agree with Frog... most home-made snorkels are not that attractive and you'll end up reducing the resale value of your jeep by putting one on. By the time your finish and add up the costs, its easier just to buy a $300 snorkel and be done with it. The AEV snorkel can be had for around $300 and it´s easy to install on the stock airbox. You can put a K&N flat filter in the stock air box. You won't take a hit on resale value down the road either.
