Default Intake Question

So, rather then spending the money on a CAI. Gonna use a K&N Filter. Possibly open the bottom of the box up a bit with some holes. Been searching and haven't found what I'm about to ask. Has anyone done anything, to keep the stock box, and replace the restrictive plastic intake tube?

Thanks

actually the stock intake tube isn't very restrictive. replacing it would do much of anything for you. the stock air box is already about as good as it gets. drilling holes in the bottom isn't a very good idea. anything that comes through the bottom holes your filter will not catch and it will go straight through the intake into your engine.

you're not going to gain squat from putting a bunch of holes in your stock box, and depending who you ask you dont gain much of anything from a cai....its a jeep with a mini van engine, would you put a cai or holes in your mini van's airbox?

want better air intake, get a snorkel.....punch holes in your box best stay out of water of any depth

I just read a thread that was about 4 pages long on drilling holes in the box. But obviously below where the filter is located. I don't see how anything is gonna be getting past the filter. No different then a CAI, but keeping the stock box for some water (splash) protection.

The rubber tube has ribs in it. A straight piece without ribs is gonna flow better then ribs. I just figured someone would have done something by now.

I don't own a jeep. Helping a buddy out. But I'll be sure to post pics when we do this.

Again, figured someone would have done this
