Well it depends what you use your iPad for, but one benefit would be real-time GPS topographic mapping.

Maps. Topo maps specifically. There are some great map applications with offline map access that you can download topo maps for the area you are going to while you have signal and then use the gps, assuming you have one, if you don't have cell coverage. Also, the recording function with the maps is great to 1) record your trail ride for future use and 2) more importantly backtrack if you get lost.

Android user here. But do know that iPads don't have built-in GPS if they are Wi-Fi only models. Do have a friend running one with some plug-in GPS module. It provided very similar capability to my Nexus 7 running Backcountry Navigator. Sorry, don't know what app he was running.

You get a 9.7" GPS and a great music/video source. Can carry books and magazines for camping too. Get an OBD II BT reader and you can have an amazing dash.

Yes on Gaia being maps. I used a Bad Elf GPS Pro on my old iPad and it worked well over Bluetooth. Wicked fast and accurate.

Could I use a personal hotspot in my iPhone to run GPS off of? And what is the purpose of the dash price earlier mentioned
