Default Tire pressure sensors

I just swapped all 5 tires with a new set of BFG's and Procomps that were previously mounted and balanced WITHOUT the tire pressure sensors. Everyone seems to think the dash light will come on saying pressure is low, it does not. I have no alarm or light at all.

Does the lack of sensors and lack of alarm mean that the sensors is the devise sending the "low pressure" signal to the computer? Without sensors, no alarm sent.

Is the sensors a manufacturer's requirement and not required by the owner by law? Can I just leave them off?

Do a search on TPMS, You can read all you want about them.

Are your stock tires stacked in your garage with the sensors in them?

Maybe your computer pickes them up when you first start up.

Yeah, mine didn't at first and I thought I was LUCKY! Then it did come on for a few weeks, but then back off! It seems to cycle through coming on for a bit then back off for a while. The computer seems to recognize, then ignore it!

Have your tire guy break down your spare and tape the sensors to the wheel itself.
It works!!!!

My other tires are about 25 miles away - don't think they send that far!

I'm gonna have them taken out of the stock rims and added to these new ones I guess. They still haven't "gone off" yet though.

Alot of the newer wheels are not TPMS compatible, so they might not work in your particular wheel application.

Does the TPS monitor the spare while it's on the rear? I thought the sensors are dormant until the tire spins ( to conserve battery power? ).

I know you could buy sensors and put them in the new tires/rims. If you switch back and forth between different wheels does the TPS have to be reprogrammed? I absolutely hate having to go to my dealer for anything. The Jeep service adviser at my dealership is a moron, and the techs aren't too much better.
