Default It's apparently 130 Degrees Outside (AEV bumper and Mr. Grille Insert)

So, I finally got my JK back from the shop, lifted 4.5, 37"tires, Expedition One Rear Bumper/Tire Carrier and AEV front bumper.

Drive home is fine, nothing odd. Get home, use the hypertech to flash the computer for 37s. Go to drive it and I get the Malfunction light and my outside Temp reads 130degrees. Now, my engine temp looks perfect, sitting right in the middle. My questions are:

Could the combination of the AEV front bumper with it's large hoop and the Mr. Grille Inserts restrict the airflow enough to throw the thermostat off (I hear it's right in the front)?

Or should I assume Hypertech is the culprit here and wait for Darnell to actually check the Hypertech thread?

It's raining or I'd have just pulled the grill and taken off the Mr. Grille's to test.

Thoughts?

Don't think that the sensor would've been relocated for this judging by the location, but maybe it got unplugged and reverts to max temp setting when unplugged. My friend also has a 07 Rubi and his is off exactly 30 degrees so it is also possible you have a bad sensor. I know if it is reset, you must drive over 20 mph for up to 2.5 minutes, but if it's reset, it's supposed to read 77 degrees until this is performed

The outside temperature and your engine temp. gauge are not one in the same.

The outside temperature being off has nothing to do with restricted airflow to your radiator and the engine temperatures.

Theoretically if the airflow is blocked, the heat from the radiator will make the sensor, which is mounted just in front of it, read high. (This is why the outside temp does not update when traveling less than 20 mph.)

But that would have to be some pretty serious blockage. I would check the connection to the sensor. Do a search, and you will find pics of it's location.

I disconnected the battery and that didn't do it, so perhaps I managed to knock it loose, let's see if the good ole search function can help me find where the heck it is...

The temp sensor is on the drivers side of the jeep most of the way down from the top of the grill in front of the radiator.

Is it behind the removable grill or somewhere below it?

By the way, thanks for the speedy response, I found one thread that said where it was, and had a picture that photobucket must not have liked, so I couldn't really tell anything.

Thanks, found it (pretty sure that was it anyway. The AEV bumper combined with the Euro Light Guards on the headlights make removing the grill a HUGE pain. I popped it free, and I'm pretty sure I had it stretched and pinched. I'm hoping that unpinching it will solve the problem. I'll found out on my drive to the gym tomorrow I guess, as it's a 20 or so minute drive and i'll be sure to not rush, just to give it a chance to reset. I will probably also undo the battery for 15 mins before I leave as well, just to give it every opportunity to go back to normal.

Thanks for your help guys.
