Actually D rings work very well (even if you don't have a chopper). I'm a land surveyor and my crew and I work offroad nearly every day. My recovery straps have shackles on them. My stock bumpers have taken a beating, and I'm building front and rears like these.
Thats one way to get better gas mileage in your JK/J8...pick it up and carry it with a helicopter!
Those are D-Rings...you put a shackle on your strap and connect away. They don't slip off like they can on hooks. D-Rings kick ass, but I'm a shackle kinda guy. Kinda kinky, I know...

question tho.. your stuck in mud over the bottoms of your doors, if you open your doors, your flooded.. someone is going to hook their strap up to your jeep and hey look, no shackles on their strap.... now what?????
I just like to keep things simple, d-rings all around, simple tool free hook ups.

D-rings are great... no argument there. I was just kidding around about the copter sorry.
I liked the look of the rugged ridge d-rings, but having to undo the bolt if I ever needed to pull someone out was a pain (didn't have shackles at the time).
So I figured...Farm equipment is beefy, and their hitch pins are hardened steel.
So.
