Default Jack stand question

Hi guys, quick question here. Im getting ready to install my AEV lift this coming week and i'm making sure i have the proper jack and stands to support the jeep. I do need a jack so i'm going to purchase a good bottle jack. My question is that i have two 3 ton jack stands in the garage from working common cars. Would these be enough to support the frame? I might need to extend the height with some wood blocks underneath them but dont see it a problem. What are you opinions on this? I've used the search tool and found people have used them just fine. Of course safety is first, but saving money is good too.

Three ton is sufficient, but the other issue is their height. Most of the 3 tons I have seen don't extend very far.

just my opinion but any time you have to use wood blocks to extend height, you are playing the lottery. Wood only goes so far, but it can and does slide REALLY easily. Installing a lift on a vehicle that's balanced on jack stands, that in turn are balanced AGAIN on wood, you're playing with fire. I've had to put muscle behind some of the torqued bolts that have held on control arms and even the tie rods. I literally move the vehicle when doing so.. Purchase some good tall jack stands, and a really good floor jack and save yourself a head ache and possibly your life.. Just thinking about it freaks me out...

x2 to that! Think about every video you've ever seen where a guy's about to do something and you're yelling (or laughing) at him through the TV... A little extra cash spent up front goes a long way to keep you in one piece.

Thank guys. What's the common height you guys use? These might be enough and i could take a measurement. Im scrapping the wood block idea. Im just anticipating lifting it high enough for the lift increase (2.5") and dropping the axle.

3 tons are usually not tall enough to hit frame that why you get a couple of 6 ton ones , also remember you don't want to max out the jack stand

Harbor freight has a pair of 6 tons for 44 bucks

Those are the ones i was actually looking at. I might be picking those up with this bottle jack:

with maybe the harbor freight stands or these:

Will 24" or 23.5" be enough for the job?

I looked at the 3 tons, and what everyone else is saying is true. Not tall enough. I bought these...

Of course, when it comes to equipment, I'm one of those who always gets something that's a little more substantial than I'll probably need.

Ive only used 6 tons and personally using them on a lifted jeep is still kinda scary. I went and bought 4- 12 ton jack stands and they are worth every penny. Huge base and extremely stable.

do this. Ask yourself just how much your life is worth. Now look in your wallet and see how much money you have there. If the price of good well built stands and a good all around floor jack doesn't equal or exceed the value of your life, then go big or don't go at all. I'm not selling you on anything except safety. Ask yourself what funds do you have to spare for this HW that you WILL use more than once. I use mine ALL the time to the point I'm planning to install a 2 post car lift in my garage in the fall. Your safety is key and shouldn't be put in harms way to save a few bucks. go 6 tons stands and get you a REALLY nice floor jack that can also help assist in keeping the vehicle up. Just looking out for a fellow jeeper!
