Default Jeep Mods and tax deductions

I figure this is in the right section since it's 100 % related to jeep mods. I was wondering if people deduct their jeep mods as tax deductions? What are the reasons? Replacing tires, repairing both axles at a time with D60s, upgrading that shot out transfer case with an Atlas 4 speed etc. I work on films as a camera operator and figure that anything I do to my jeep to increase it's off road ability helps my job and me getting to more difficult locations. Would love to hear some comments. Do you think it's better to just deduct as repairs/maintanance. How many out there do this?

I write off my upgrades as repairs and maintenance. If I were audited I can make a good argument for any of them, and if I were to get audited and they pull the plug on some or all of them I'll pay the taxes.

I really have a hard time seeing where the problem lies. If I bought a vehicle that was twice as expensive, I can still write it off and I don't see the difference.

Do you deduct your total mileage driven yearly as business related? If not only a percentage would probably be allowed.

There isn't anything illegal about it, and with a healthy logic as to how it plays into your business there isn't any reason to fear an audit.

OK so enlighten me... how does a lift kit and 37" tires fit into your business? are you doing moab tours or something bottom line is it is not legal. Routine maintenance and mileage is a different story.... upgrades doesn't fall into that category. not trying to be the tax cop, just saying if I did do that I wouldn't be brodcasting it online. No fear of audits, been audited twice

I live in a part of the country where there is lake effect snow that could land 3 feet of the fluffy white stuff on your doorstep overnight. I travel through the midwest and often go on location, off road with my customers. I don't like sleeping at rest stops because I'm afraid to take my vehicle on the road. I could write of a $90k Range Rover, why wouldn't I be able to write off the additional parts to make a $30k Jeep perform better?
