Default Jeep recall for automatic trans overheating?

Anyone here have any information on this? Found a small amount of information in another thread in this forum. Looking for more. Had this issue while on the beach in North Carolina. Changed tranny fluid to synthetic and thinking about a cooler but have heard it will void warranty. Any truth to this?

Asked our local dealer about this a few weeks ago. They had no idea what I was talking about even after bringing them the printout.

Seems to be a common fix to add a cooler to the auto's if you have ever gotten the overheating warning.

My 09 Unlimited Rubicon has been to Death Valley (115 degrees) and never had a tranny overheat warning. Maybe they put a bigger cooler on the later models?

The fix that Jeep issued a TSB for is going to be a flash of the computer that will just have it say hot oil where the mileage is displayed. This is already standard on the 09-10 models. I was really hoping for a better warranty fix, like a tranny cooler, but I will take what I can get.

Sounds like Jeep is doing a CYA and not a fix. I guess they want to be replacing all of our auto transmissions under the lifetime warranty.

Just purchase a transmission cooler! Simple yet effective, now if your running 37's then it would be wise to also install a temp gauge.

I am planning on a trans cooler, just waiting on funds. My issue is that if Jeep knows they have a problem why make the customer pay to have one installed. Give us one and actually fix the problem, don't band aid it.

I don't think I ever had overheating issues but decided to install the cooler anyway. Cost about 40 bucks and gives great peace of mind. I helped a neighbor when he was replacing his tranny on his TJ and the guy that rebuilt the tranny supplied him with a cooler and said he wouldn't warranty the tranny unless it was installed, I think he did this with EVERY tranny he rebuilt. That's when I decided I would do mine.

No. A supplemental cooler is recommended in the factory service manual if needed.
If you install it correctly, it can only extend the life of the transmission.

And, btw, the factory ATF +4 is synthetic. If you use anything other than a licensed brand of ATF+4, your warranty on the transmission will be voided.
