How do you know when your unit bearings are going?

lift up the front with a floor jack and if the top of the tire can move from inside to outside its the bearing or loose lug nuts.

Dumb question, but how often do you repack them? Sealed or not bearings need lube and lube breaks down with heat/pressure/contaminants. You may be at the point that you have to replace them, but on the next set try altering your maintanance to tear down, clean, repack the bearings every 10-15000 miles or sooner depending on how hard you are on them.

Just over $100.00 a piece. First set was done under warranty just before the 35's went on.

When I had my XJ, the front bearings (unit bearings) went out at 30k miles. They were expensive enough to have them replaced that I used the money to buy two sets of bearings, the factory mandrel kit, AND a 20k lb. press and fixed them myself. My point being, I discovered the bearings from the factory were a Japanese brand. I bought Timken Bearings and never had a bearing go out after installing them. I sold the vehicle after 14 years and 180k miles.

If people are noticing front wheel bearings going out early, maybe the same thing could be done.
