JK chips?
Hey, I am having troubling finding some reviews on JK chips. The only one I really found anything on is the Jet chip. Anyone have suggestions on this area. I need one that does it all really, intake, tires, etc.
i was interested in a performance chip too. it seems most people on this forum are using the Hypertech chip. do a search on it; it seems half of the people seem to think they arent worth the money (kind of like the cold air intakes--they get some benefit, but not that much). good luck!
The thing that most people seem to use is the Hypertech tuner, which seems to do everything you want. It is a unit you plug into your OBDII port, and it puts a program onto your Jeep. It also is set that it can set it back to stock if/when you ever need to.
My local 4x4 shop really likes the UniChip a lot. So I said they should get one in as a demo. Let me try it and if it works I'll buy it. So far no takers. I'm at the point that until I see independent dyno tests or drag tests (full 1/4 mile or to 60 mph) I don't think they're worth anything. I mean how hard would it be to take a JK to the drags and run it thru the traps a couple of times to establish a baseline. And then install the Jet, the Unichip and Hypertech making the same two runs. Obviously the Jeep would have to be an auto to eliminate a variable. If the 4WD magazines weren't whores for their advertizers they'd do the above test and do us some good.
Of course they could do the same for CAI's, exhausts, etc. But that would require honesty.

Truth in advertising, there's a noble concept.
I have the Hypertech programmer and I'm not really thrilled with it. From what I've seen posted here, there seems to be more people with automatic transmissions that have had favorable results than those with manual transmissions. While the Hypertech Max Energy does change shift points and shift firmness, they aren't user adjustable, and where the bulk of perceived performance increases come from. For my manual transmission that proves to be pretty worthless although I'm happy with the rest of the limited feature set.
I'm still holding out hope that Superchips eventually comes out with a programmer for the JK. Until then I don't plan on doing any research for switching programmers and I'll be content with the modest power gains, speedo correction and running a 180 degree thermostat.

I have a hypertech programmer. I can adjust tire size, gear size (for autos this helps shift points), performance adjustment, and finally the thermostat temp, keeping things cooler on the trail if you have overheating problems. I have it with a k&n drop in filter and could not be more happy with the acceleration with 4.10's and 35's. Its a great upgrade. I would spend the 379 again in a heartbeat.
