Default JK Diff Cover from ruffstuffspecialties.com

Hi All…

I am interested in buying some Diff Covers from ruffstuffspecialties.com for my 07 JK Rubicon, and was hoping to get some additional verification that they will fit the D44 axle with the factory lockers.

The dealer says they will fit and that they have sold some to JK owners and only had one customer who said their ring gear lightly touched the inside of the cover, which they just so happened to find when they removed the cover for another reason after some mileage with the cover on. They supposedly alleviated the issue by grinding down that spot that made some contact.

So based on that issue with that one customer, I am wondering if anyone else had this issue when using their covers?

Thanks in advance…

There are plenty of diff covers out there with NO issues....and that "issue" the one customer had is a HUGE one....the ring hitting the inside of the cover

Stick with the proven stuff...

I am sure that this tread is ticking but I have their products on my tj and they are top notch...dont for get the discount pbb10, If it is close to hitting the ring gear I am sure that they can fix it but I would just try using a lubelocker for the added clearance....

I have the ruff stuff D44 cover on both diffs of my 2008 Rubicon. I had an issue with the front diff in that the 5.13 gear ring touched the diff cover in two places, presumbably because it is a high pinion diff. I had it ground down a bit and it fitted fine. This is a great diff cover and it is guaranteed for life, no questions asked....

You must have been the customer that was referenced in my onversation with the dealer. Other than riding it for some miles and seeing the damage on the inside of the cover, how can I know in advance where the contact is before driving it so I can grind it down??? Cant fit inside that diff cover

Thanks...

With the axle off the ground place the cover on and rotate the wheels. I can quarantee you that if your ear is near or on the cover you will hear it and feel it as well.

If you temp do it without grease and gasket it will tell you instantly, then do it with a gasket but not so tight that you destroy the gasket seat.

Mark the gear with blue so that when/if it does touch you'll know where it needs to be ground.
