Default jk for a different purpose..

hello
im new hear.. i live in dubai in the UAE and have been looking around on this forum for a while because soon a Jk is comming my way i wanted to ask about a few things that may have been answered on this forum but answered to someone who uses his car for climbing rocks and all that.. in the UAE we go dune bashing, which means are car rarely gets to a full flex... so the main thing i want to do with my car wen it arrives is to lift it and get some 35" tires on it... from what i see ill probubly choose to go with teraflex, the look very good.. would it be best to go with a 2.5" BB or a full 3" kit? does anyone know of any tires that would be great on sand, normally quite soft. and would i be able to fit these 35" tires on stock rims or should i look into getting new rims.. i dont want these tires to be too thin.. because its all about surface area.. and the last thing i wanted to ask about is gearing.. what gears should i run with for maximum performance.. Fuel consumption isnt my main worry because there's other cars i can use at home

You want a wide tire to try and float the sand and not dig in. Preferably with paddles like these. This is NOT my truck so I don't know what brand they are. Maybe someone will recognize these.

Hey Dubai, welcome to the forum. First thing is that we don't support "cars" here...lol only JEEPS...
Teraflex makes a very nice product along with a few others. I can vouch for there stuff. From the Jeeps builds over there that I have seen, I would say, get the 3" regular TF, no need for a long arm suspension. Get resevoir shocks, like the Fox 2.0 or 2.5, as the will stay cooler. Make sure you get very small backspaced rims so you can fit WIDE tires which will help the MOST in sand. And then air on board so you can "air down" and then back up for the street ride home.

Default Dunes

Hello and welcome.

First, I would recommend the spring lift like the others have said. Fox shocks are highly regarded among the dune and desert racers, although usually pretty expensive.

For tires you would probably want an all terrain. I have read some good things about Pro Comp's all terrain, although I personally (highly opinionated plug) prefer BF Goodrich Mud terrain or all terrains since I have used both in the sand and they work well. Another option would be Mickey Thompson (Baja claw or Baja ATZ for example) or Dick Cepek (F-C II's are wider than your average tire). For Rims, you will definitely want some with less backspacing, moving the tire out, for a better center of gravity and space to clear suspension components. You may also want to check into wider rims, minimum 8" wide, with a 10 or 12 for the really wide tire sizes of 15 inches, although 12 and wider can increase leverage on front axle components causing problems.

For gears I would recommend 5.13 for automatics, and probably for a manual also to get the torque needed for those large tires.

Good luck with the build and post pictures!

for sand only the paddles are the way to go, but if you will be using them on pavement even a little, or even on hard packed dirt you will destroy them..

TrXus STS and Pro Comp Xtreme M/T get very high ratings in the sand and are still decent on pavement.

Also the Hankook Dynapro MT RT03 get good ratings on almost all terrain.

I think the Nitto Dune Grapplers would probably be a good choice.

hey there, i would suggest mud terrain 33's and 4.56 or 4.88 gears.. 35 just kills the power on climbs... i live in dubai, maybe we should dune together some time

for just sand, a A/T tire would work really well. you dont want to dig into the sand, aka M/T. however some skilled drivers use boggers in the sand so its depends on the skill as well

thanks everyone thats alot of help so would it be best to go for the teraflex 3" lift and get some shocks, and run 33" tires? and yes i drive alot in the desert here.. and all i need is torque! so high gearing it is, i will defo get a manuel.. it would be best to get some new wheels so i can support wider tires... another thing is its a law here that your tyre cant stick out of the vehicle so could i fix that with new fenders? and the last thing i wanted to ask is i will be driving my car on pavement as much as in the desert
