Default JK Transmission

G'day all,

Does anyone know any type of modifications being done to the transmission? I have a 4dr an automatic transmission which already started to give me problems and I would like to reinforce it or change it. It already has metal residues inside when the oil was changed. The JK has a lot of weight on it (solid front/rear bummpers, Riverraider complete skid plates, Tom woods 1350 cardans, etc.)

I have installed a Ripp Supercharger System and 4:88 ratio on the Axles. The charger gives the extra mile when it comes to power but know the tranny needs to be modified or replaced.

Any suggestions?

. P

Im not sure about the JK, but I know a guy with a TJ that had his tranny rebuilt. I think he said they use power bands and clutches to make it more heavy duty. you could check with any local tranny shop to see

How much residue?
Did the fluid look good, otherwise?
What kind of problems is it giving you?

I had my pan off at around 5,000 miles to install a temp probe. It had metal residue on the magnet and in the pan. I considered it normal, and that's why there is a filter.

Unless it was a lot of metal, I wouldn't be worried.

I understand what you want to do, though.

A lot of residue! The oil smelled almost like burned! Also, it's having these vibration on road and hits.

I believe the company that I have heard of that rebuilds the 42RE transmissions with heavy duty parts is called "Import Performance Transmission" (IPT). If you google them they should be the first thing that pops up. When I had my automatic ZJ I looked into getting the transmission rebuilt by them before everything else started falling apart around the powertrain.

B&M Tranny Cooler will definately be a good investment...they're only around $50-$75 from Summit I believe...there's a writeup around here somewhere when they had installed it. Dropped the running temps about 50 degree's. Heat is a horrible enemy to any auto trans. I plan on installing one myself soon.
