Jku roof rack mounting options

Wanting to fab up a roof rack for a JK unlimited and have been looking at mount options. I saw some mounts I liked when looking at the smittybilt defender racks that mounted the front to the drip rail and back to the rear window hinge. First I can't find these for sale anywhere but I find lots of pictures of jeeps with them and second, how much weight can the drip rails support..I don't wanna break them off. For the record I don't plan on putting much weight up there..definitely not more then 100 lbs.

Yes exactly, need to know where to buy those mounts and what the weight rating for them is.

Sorry, I couldn't find any details on the weight rating, but in the end I believe it's ~120 lbs (I read that somewhere, but can't say where). So when you add the weight of the rack you've really lowered your hauling capacity.

What are you planning on hauling up there? I guess you could throw a small cooler, sleeping bags and a tent...nice for clearing the cargo area, but I can't say that I'd spend $400+ for that.

I am interested in what you're going to haul. --James

Will probably just be putting a small cooler, sleeping bag, couple 2x4 or pieces of rebar (target stands) a tent (just hauling it not sleeping on it) or duffle bags...basically what u said...just to get larger items out of the cab. Is it 400 for the mounts? I'd like to, if possible, get just the mounts and I will fab up my own basket. I cannot find the mounts..I wanna say one of the places selling the defender basket for the jk said it was only the basket, not the mounts.

I think I totally misunderstood what you were asking. If you're looking just for the mounts, call Smittybilt or email them...

Check this system Yakima 8001616 - YAKIMA Hard Top Roof Track Rack for 07-16 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec

I have the Yakima Whisbar HD and gutter mounts but I just bought the tracks and feet to mount it to the roof.

That's real clean!

I remember someone using an XJ track & mount and it pretty much achieved the same effect. You maybe able to save some $$$ if you traverse the pic-a-part route.
