K&N?
ok i have heard alot of problems about the CAI sucking water, aren't the K&N filter that replaces your regular filter suppose to produce good results? has anyone tried this? how much gain in power has come from a CAI anyway? i want torque baby its all about how she crawls!!!!
A drop in isn't going to produce meaningful results, about the only benefit is going to be not having to buy paper filters as the drop in is re-useable. I have a full "CAI" system and the results are modest at best.
I put a K&N filter (drop in replacement) in place of my OEM filter a few weeks ago. No noticeable hp gains but I have noticed 2 things. I can stay in 6th gear going up hills that I used to have to downshift to 5th on and I'm getting 40-60 more miles per tank of gas than I was with the OEM filter. Was running around 240 - 250 miles per tank and now I'm at 300.
It was worth the 50 bucks.

If you're talking about the drop in K&N, they ain't worth snot. They flow more air, because they flow more DIRT. Now, this is just my opinion.....but as far as the entire CAI unit, no one makes one right now that gives a good bang for the buck......except maybe that XDI thing. I haven't seen too many people talking about it, but the ones I have read about seem to like it. For the cost though of any brand, it just ain't enough of a performance boost for me to come off the hip.

You need to read my post above. IMHO the CAI systems are not a wise decision for a Jeep if you're planning on doing any off-roading that involves water, not to mention the folks who've hydrolocked with the stock airbox. K&N flow more air and as a result they flow more dirt, that's obvious. What makes you think that any other high flow filter out there doesn't do the same? It's a basic principle, so might as well target AEM, K&N, Air Raid, etc. for flowing more dirt because they do. It's not a K&N thing.

Tis true....I was speaking about K&N because it's pretty well known that their drop ins are the worst about flowing the most dirt, consequently, the most air, too. As far as folks hydorlocking with stock boxes...or CAIs for that matter, they probably went somewhere they shouldn't have been anyway. I completely agree CAIs ain't worth the money....not on a Jeep anyway. Since we seem to agree...what was the point of your post again?
I suggested you read my post above talking about what I gained after adding the K&N drop in.
I stand by my comment. They ain't worth SNOT. You might have gained power, but you also gained DIRT. Got me now? I'll take CLEAN over power any day. But hey, you run what you want to. It's your Jeep.
