Default K&N Air Filter MPG loss

I rounded 12,000 miles on my '12 JK and needed a new air filter so I got a K&N factor replacement filter. I figured that it would show better MPG since my original filter was pretty used, but instead I lost about .7 MPG. Anyone else experience this?

Surely it isn't the filter. Probably driving slightly changed, fuel mixtures from the refinery changed, or weather factors. I don't see how an air filter can make any impact on fuel mileage, unless it is extremely dirty.

OTOH, I had my fourth scheduled oil change this morning, according to my oil change light, at 27,272 miles. The shop that changes my oil is notorious about trying to upsale everything. I asked them to check my filter and they said it looked great. It's the original. Even showed it to me and aside from it not being perfectly clean, it really wasn't needing changing.

My fuel mileage according to my info display is avg 18.5. And that's with hauling ass everywhere. Even setting the cruise control at 85-90 driving back to Dallas from the beach house.
Sent from the fast lane while driving one handed.

Are you calculating it yourself or going by the computer? Computer not really that accurate. My K&N drop in gave me a slight increase in MPG...

By the computer but I don't see why the computer would only show a loss in mileage when it had been accurate in the past. I have a ProCal so it should be on.

The computer on mine is about 1mpg high, but it's consistent. So I can rely on it to show a drop or increase over a few tankfulls.
