Not sure myself. I do know that after going from the Airaid intake to a K&N drop in my mpg's increased from 15-16 to 18-19.

I would get a drop in filter. Cai's tend to let more dirt and water in the engine so dusty trails and water crossings not the best idea, and some of them do a bad job at isolating the engine heat which makes me wonder why they say "cold air". They do sound good though.....

I see that rugged ridge is making a drop in similar to the k&n but is a dry filter so doesn't require oil. I am waiting to hear some feedback on them but might be a good option and price looks good too

K&N 57 Series FIPK Performance IntakI run this and have no complaints. On previous TJs I ran the AEMs and feel this one is better.

A true CAI is a snorkel, but like George Bush says, "not gonna do it".

I only show 2 different intake kits for that.

77-1553KP has the metal intake tube.

57-1553 has the plastic tube.

Thats the difference.

It is the only K&N drop in that Summit Racing sells online. $40 or so. My driving pattern is the same. I try and stay around 70 mph on the highway.
