Default King Coilover Spring Slider Catching???

Just installed my king coilovers and my passenger side coilover spring slider is catching as it try's to slide up and down the shock. So it acts like its jumping.

Should this just be lubed up with w-40, grease, etc?

Surely this isn't uncommon???

Thanks for any help/advice in advance

They are known for being a little noisy. Mine make a popping noise every now and then. There is a new slider design that helps reduce the noise, but I just chalk it up to owning a jeep with coilovers.

I dont suggest using wd40 as a lubricant. It attracts dirt badly. I believe a graphite product is used, but dont quote me in that.

I just spray mine off with water and they are fine.

I guess I'll give it a wash tomorrow and hopefully all is well.

You may try taking the load of the coils and rotating them so the ends are on opposite sides.

I'll try this tomorrow.

Seems like any bump more than common road shakes causes these things to jump up and down the shock...annoying after paying so much for these things!

Here is the new slider design. I hear it helps resolve some of the problems.

I am not an expert and am really just a newbie to these King coil overs but I did study everything I can find, watch every video could find.
If anybody knows where there is a book or a guide please post it up.
There has got to be somebody out there that knows how to set these up right but they don't spend much time sharing their secrets.

Given said that I will try to help.

So if you just installed them I assume they were new? If so they should have the new style King sliders that have a bit longer lip on the slider. I was told this is also a new material vs the previous version used on the 2.0 King coil overs.

So a few questions;

1. How much travel before your secondary coils come in?
Reason is that if there is too much then the slider is traveling a long ways and the shock is not working as intended.
I want to say I am currently at 3/4 on the rears and 1 inch on the fronts before my secondary coils come in.

2. How much preload do you have?
EVO advises that you run at least 3.5 inches of lift. If not enough the coil will kind of bow and this will push the slider off to one side.
Honestly cant remember right now how much I am running down from the top of the shock body. Overall lift is right at 3.875 from the factory spec.

3. How much pressure is in the reservoirs?
This may not affect the noise much but if is too low then possibly your shocks are stroking too far?
A lot of folks like 150, King recommends 170. I am currently running 170.

Now it should be noted that mine sounded really bad at first. They had a lot of "sprong sprong" noise going over bumps. This is before they were set up right and dialed in.
My pressures were all over the place right out of the box. Rears were like 80-90 and fronts were like 125 and 150.

After running them for a month or so they are now quiet and I hardly hear any weird noises.

But if after all this and you still cant stand the noise then you can always look into the AGM Motorsports sliders. They run about 400 and change for a set of four. A lot of guys love them. I have not tried them yet. They have a 3 piece design that has a bushing in-between the slider halves that don't let the two coils bind up and make noise.
Plus whatever they are made out of is supposed to slide very nicely.

Yeah these Kings take some work to get dialed in but man once you do they really ride nice.
Good luck with it and hope this helps you some.

Yes, they are new and have been on for 2 weeks and about 300 road miles.

The slider looks to be of the new design.

I was under the impression that these coils from EVO were valved and balanced from the research they did. I have not changed anything other than the coil caps and have it positioned at 1" from the top thread to the top of the spring cap. So, I have not changed anything other than my spring cap.

Coils do not look to be binding.
