Ive had the K/M in the past on a truck and my mother has the K/M2 on her current Tahoe. I have to say that i think the KM2s are a bit quiter as well as a smoother ride. I still prefer the K/M for looks though. and its much cheaper. As far as off road is concernced i dont really know...but they are both a great tire. I would prefer the K/M though.

Haven't they stopped making the T/A KM in favor of the 2s? That was my understanding, anyway.

Discount Tire is still selling them. I'm considering a set of them too...

The KM2 has tougher sidewalls. The only comparson I can make is flawed as I like my 35" KM2's better than I liked my 32" KM's. A meaningful comparison would involve the same size tire tested side by side.

However somebody I know who was involved in the development and testing of both tires says the KM2's are better and runs them on his rig.

But whichever you get sipe the damn things; it makes them even better!

If the Toyo Open Country MT's weren't 10 ply E load range and so damn heavy I'd give them a try. But as it stands now when I move to 37's I'll go with another set of KM2's.

35x12.50x18 want to do my breaks so i can test it offroad, but KM2 is worth the cash for the lack of humming on the road. 0-4 mph and you feel the nubs and hear em grip, but then it's gone...... just like i want it to be.

I had Discount Tire sipe my KM2's and it made a huge difference. I agree that the stock KM2 is not that great in the winter. However none of the supposedly siped tires like the Toyo MT and Cooper STT have proper siping (look at a Bridgestone Blizzak for proper siping). The un-siped KM2 is a better tire to work with to hand sipe. My gut feeling is that a properly hand siped KM2 will be the best tire out there both in winter and in the rocks in the summer.

Even as flawed as I feel machine siping is it made a huge difference in the snow and ice when we were "snow wheeling". And when we got on dry rock in Moab I had more traction than before they were siped. I think siping takes an excellent tire like the KM2 and makes it a great tire; perhaps the best available.

I was thinking the same question. I spoke to the shop that's gonna install my gears, and the owner and I were talking and I asked him about the KM's. He told me that I could go with them if I wanted, but anywhere I look I would have a difficult time finding them, and if I did the sizes would be extremely limited, if given any choice at all. He made a good point that what about the future if something happens and you need to replace a tire, and can't find any? Told me he himself would rather play it safe with the KM2's and not have to worry about any of this, that made me rule out the KM's real fast...
