KM2 vs. MTR w/ Kevlar??
What do you guys think is better? I am wanting to get 37x12.5-17. I have heard the MTR's suck as well as the KM2 suck and vise versa. Let me have your input!!
The MTRs are really nice and I like that they run true to size....but, the KM2s are better IMO. They are surprisingly quiet on the roads, and get crazy grip off road. I only have personal experience with the KM2s, but I couldn't be happier. The MTRs do well too, and both tires wear like steel. I don't know if people had similar experiences with the MTRs, but my KM2s are wearing evenly, still have about 85-90% tread after 8,000 miles and 2 rotations. I love em. You can't go wrong with either and the MTRs definitely have a unique look. Hope this helped some. I voted for KM2s
I cant really write to the KM2's with any experience since I have only had the OEM KM1's for a year.
When I upgraded I went to the MTR's with Kevlar in the 34 (305/70/17).
What I can say is they are leaps and bounds above the KM1. The first run out really proved their worth
They also really don't have any noticeable deflation when airing down (12psi) and bite like mad.
The real proof came from an obstacle called "winch hill". It is a long "bathtub" like shaped depression in the ground. You enter from about a 45 degree drop about 60 foot down, drive through a big deep section of creek for about 100 yards then out a 60 foot 45-50 degree climb out. It's allot of fun and more "scary" looking than it actually is once you have done it once.
Well I had a group with me and went down it and back out with no issues in our JK . A guy in our group with a YJ on 33's wanted to go down but, had me ride with him. He took the same line and WHAM cut sidewall LR on the exit WTF?
Tons of people have done this without damage. So, another guy in our group (JK Unlimited also with 33's) wanted to go down. He asked me to ride along and took the same line. That is the only line to take in the creek (it trys pulling you hard in).
Same thing on the exit... WHAM, cut sidewall LR
Looked at mine, not a scratch or nick on the sidewall. Looked at the videotapes, we all took the same line!
Found out, other people had been blowing sidewalls also on that day. A large rock on the exit had under-cut and was almost like a pinching razor against the sidewall on the way out.
In seriousness, if I was still running the KM' 1's I am sure I would have cut the sidewall also!
The tire impressed the heck out of me. It's fairly quiet on the road and handles great. The Kevlar sidewall lets me run at 30psi cold on the road so, it is also much smoother than the 37psi from the KM's I used to run.

Also remember when you are reading reviews that the MTR w/Kevlar is a completely different animal than the old MTR
I have notice a lot of guys posting their 2 cents, with comments like I (or my buddy) had MTRs a couple of years ago and they sucked....that is a completely differnt tire
MTR w/Kevlar are awesome tires

They are both great tires. I have the MTR/kevlar and they are quiet on-road, aggressive off-road, and so far work great in the snow. The fact that they are very close to true size WHEN MOUNTED ON THE JEEP was a plus in my book.
I have the 315/75R16 by the way.

I just installed my second set of KM2's, I love them. I am sure you cant go wrong with either one. Most of the major brands now are well made tires, its really only the look/use you are going for.

There have been some threads recently about the performance of KM2's on snowy/icy roads. Personally, I think the BFG is a much better looking tire, but given where you are located, I'd suggest a search for those threads to get more feedback. It may slant your opinion toward the Goodyear.
Have to agree with some of the posts Not sure you can go wrong with either...
Comes down to your own preferences about the look and perceived value of their on/of road abilities...
I have the KM2's the are surprising smooth on the road and find the very capable off-road...
last time I was out and Moab took them down to about 10 pounds and couldn't hardly see any change in how they looked till I got them up on some rocks... those sidewalls are pretty tough
Hope that helps
