I would be curious to hear about his experience as well.

I bought the same hoist and have 13' ceiling in my garage.... It was a nightmare.

The instructions were god awful. The hardware provided was cheap crap. The design was poor in a few areas. I was not impressed at all...

However, it works, and it works well. I can get my top on and off all by myself in around 15 mins by the time I remove the torx bolts and freedom panels, latch it on, and everything else.

I did improvise and replace a lot of the crappy hardware, and probable over engineered it some. I would suggest that others do the same.

One word of advice. Measure, measure again, measure a 3rd time, then a 4th...and write everything down. I caught a few mistakes that would have caused me to have to disassemble the T-assembly because I made it too narrow. When I caught myself, I was thankful I am so anal about doing things.

Here are some pics...

I've had one for two years...observations...

1. Yes, the instructions suck. They couldn't be worse.

2. Absolutely hit the studs. Don't mount it on anything except the studs. Use a stud finder. Use 4x4 or 4x2 if necessary.

3. As previously said. Measure a thousand times before drilling. Set up is a PITA. Not easy at all.

4. Out of the box, it looks like a piece of crap...

BUT...

It works. It's held up perfectly and has not failed. Very convenient. One man job to get hardtop off. A must have!!!
