Default Larger Oil Filter

Rather than this be part of another thread, I thought I'd post it seperate, so that it would not get lost.

Here's what I came up with. the 318 filter idea is a bust, because there's no room around the filter perimeter for any more filter. There's just too much motor in the way. The standard WIX OEM replacement is #51348, it's on the left. The larger one, #51315, on the right. All specs provided by the WIX filter web site.

Specs for the 51348:

Style: Spin-On Lube Filter
Service: Lube
Type: Full Flow
Media: Paper
Height: 3.404
Outer Diameter Top: 2.921
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed
Thread Size: 3/4-16
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=21/37
Burst Pressure-PSI: 275
Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 19

Gasket Diameters
Number O.D. I.D. Thk.
Attached 2.734 2.430 0.226

Specs for the 51315:

Style: Spin-On Lube Filter
Service: Lube
Type: Full Flow
Media: Paper
Height: 4.826
Outer Diameter Top: 2.983
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed
Thread Size: 3/4-16
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 16
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Burst Pressure-PSI: 320
Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 19

Number O.D. I.D. Thk.

You can see in this picture, that the gaskets are nearly indentical. The only noticable difference in the specs is the by-pass valve setting. I don't think it's enough of a difference to worry about. The longer filter is a touch larger in diameter, and almost 1.5" longer. I think anytime you can swap out for a larger filter with a greater capacity, it's a good thing.

Thanks! had somebody mentioned something about that in the other thread where they ignored me, I wouldn't have started a whole new thread.
