Let's hear your epic fail/win at d.i.y. projects!!
 

It wasn't my Jk, but I bought a diy a/c recharging kit. I went a month in the heat with a black chevy blazer with black leather seats and I had enough. I went to my mechanic and he wanted some rediculous amount to recharge the a/c. Needless to say, I went to me nearest part store determined to get this done today. They were sold out of the one I needed and didn't expect any coming soon so I picked the next best one! It was for RV's... So I went home all excited, read the directions, charged it and took it for a spin. I cranked it and then nothing... Nothing... Cooling... Then all of a sudden it began blowing huge ice chips! Damn... Epic fail. But atleast it's cold :thumbsup:

Had the Purejeep Bare Boneze set up created by WOL and sold by Northridge. Added the actual stubby bumper last night.
FAIL: did it by my self and scratched the sh!t out of the new bumper, grille and front edge of my hood.
WIN: I've been wanting to paint my JK flat black. This is just one more nudge in that direction.

Well, my driveway isn't very level, but my front yard actually is, so I was putting on some new coils, had the ass end in the air on jack stands, had just finished getting in the coils. Put the scissor jack under the rear pumpkin to lift it up to put the wheels back on. Man I thought it was done and everything went smooth. Until the scissor jack started sinking in the turf, and then started pushing the axle back, next thing I know, KA-PLUNK. Whole back end falls of the jackstands and lands right on the rotors in the yard.
Oh its not over
So I'm pissed (I guess I'm lucky it fell on the soft turf and not concrete) so I put the hi-lift under the bumper to start lifting it up to get it back on the jack stands to put the damn wheels on, get the ass about 2' off the ground, and all the sudden, the hi-lift starts to sink, starts tilting to the passenger side, and crashed right into my tailight. Breaks it, jeep falls back to the ground.
I finaly got it, and no injury to the jeep other than a busted rear tailight, oh, and my ego.

i took a day last summer to install my woods evap and SS relocation kits. i got the evap done with no problems and as i was doing my SS relo all was smooth until i got to the final positioning. i threw the jeep into 4lo to easily disconnect my sway bar to flex out the front, but put it back in 1st as an all wheel parking brake. i had everything tightened back up and ready to go, jeep back on the ground, but out of curiosity i decided to get my cousin to start it up and turn the wheels lock to lock just to be sure all was good. well genius decided to just reach in and turn the key (don't know why he thought that would work:thinking:) and of course in 4lo and 1st gear, the rubi fired up and started crawling away. i managed to roll out of the way after being knocked over in front of the tire. however, with the wheels already turned to one side, my cousin (still standing outside the jeep) was getting pinned between the jeep and the fence. the front bumper clipped our boat trailer, pushing that through the back gate, then the jeep continued thru the fence and straight towards my neighbor's house. my cousin got pulled under the back tire as he was trying to reach in to turn it off and it drove over his foot and most of his leg. i somehow managed to jump in the passenger's side, straddle the console, and hit the clutch about a foot before the jeep hit the neighbor's house. cousin was alright except for some serious bruising, boat was fine, fence was wrecked, and the jeep suffered very little sheet metal damage as well as some scrapes on the fender and grille. oh, and there was a dent and small hole in the bumper from the trailer, but the dent popped out the next day in the sun. oddly enough, 2 weeks later the same neighbor had a drunk driver in a colorado bury his truck in the front of his house. if that's not an epic fail, i don't know what is. going to try to find the pics from that day. if i can find em i'll post em up

Yea that definatley classifys as an EPIC FAIL. Haha. Glad yall weren't hurt. That's crazy about the neighbors house!

How did the jack stand fail? That scares me to death.....

I learned a long time ago (the hard and embarassing way) to put the tire under the frame as soon as it comes off the vehicle. Never have trusted a jackstand or a jack since. I had 6 jackstands under my Jeep when i installed the lift, plus both tires on thier sides sitting under the frame rails. If something failed, it wasnt going far.

Good advice. Especially because I should be installing my OME springs by my self this weekend.
