Default Lets talk steering components and larger tires!

I've heard a lot of guys say when you move up to 35-37in tires your steering needs to be addressed as well as many other things. If I ran a 35in tire over a 37 what would have to be done to the steering? Tie rod, drag link, ball joints, steering stabilizer etc... also is there a company that makes all these components that are simply bolt on? The reason I ask is because I read an artical the other day where a guy said if he had it to do over angain he would have stuck with 35s instead of going 37s he said the extra wear and tear on the components wasn't worth it to him he was on his 2nd power steering pump and 2nd set of ball joints and the jeep only had 10000 miles on it. So give me some information on steering guys and tell me your experiences with larger tires. Thanks in advance

Been running 35s over a year now. Stock steering with no issues. I go rock crawling on average 2 days a month. Sometimes more. Only thing I am about to replace is tie rod because I got it hung up on a rock and bent it. But ball joints and power steering still great. Going to go 37s soon once 35s wear out.

Bought my jk October of 2006, and it has been on TF2.5BB 35's most of its life, and 37's 1.5yrs, 106,000kms on the odo too......If you've seen any of my pics, I wheel my rig, and am still on original balljoints. I didnt change my tie rod (bent it,) trackbar, or upgrade my SS until I went to the TF4LCA (same time I did 37's.) i expect to do ball joints this year regardless.

I think you will be fine on 35's for quite a while, this all depends on how you wheel of course, as everything can wear rapidly with driver mod....if you want to upgrade everything over the years, that will work too....or depending on the lift you install you will get some of those components with it....or if you have the $$, order a suspension package covering these areas, but you can get away with simple lift and 35's for a long time.

Awesome info thanks man I'm thinking about starting with 35s and see how they pan out for where I wheel and if I need 37s ill do tube fenders and upgrade my steering before I even throw them on.

seeing that you have a 2dr Sport 6spd.....IHO, I would just go with a good complete 2.5 coil lift and 35's....a 2dr on 35's is an extremely capable rig .....if you go 37's, you will need to consider allot of other upgrades, some immediately, some later....
