So the other day I broke my stock license plate mount. I was thinking about just mounting it on my spare tire but its almost impossible to find a way to do it with my or-fab tire carrier. I was half tempted to just rip the stock one off and just bend the plate around and drill it into the body but then there would be no light. So does anyone have any original ideas or ways to mount it and still be lighted up?

Quick trip to AutoZone:

- generic license plate mount
- generic license plate light
- drilled and tapped machine screws into carrier for mount
- extended OEM wiring for light

I have a plate relocation piece that moved mine to my spare tire. It's from Poison Spyder.

I think I'm going to go to autozone tomorrow and what I can rig up. I would get a mount like that but the only problem is the or-fab doesn't use lug nuts, it has a bar that goes through the hole for the hub cap.

I have seen some guys use electrical cable clamps to mount the plate to the "T" bar on the carrier.

I also run an OR Fab rear tire carrier and had trouble coming up with a mounting location, here's what I chose, it's a license plate mount for a TJ made by Warrior (purchased from Quadratec). The little LED light isn't as good as it could be, enough to keep legal I guess. Very solid piece of kit since its bolted through the body.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I just wanted to find a cheaper stronger way to do it instead of buying another one from Mopar. 60 dollars for a piece of plastic that will break again is a little much.

Why don't you just buy the ORO license plate light from Northridge? That's what I wired up this weekend. Works and looks great.
