lifetime powertrain waranty
Just bought my wife a new 4door sahara. Just couldn't leave it stock but didnt want to much on her daily driver. I put a skyjacker 2" spacer kit, 1.5" spydertrax, with 325/60/18 on her stock wheels. Looks great but didnt know if this would in any way void my factory lifetime powertrain waranty. has anyone had problems with mods such as this? I asked if a lift kit would void my waranty when we bought it. They said as long as I dont change the drive shaft but i think they would have told me anything to get my money. thanks for the help
When I bought my 2008 wrangler unlimited last year I asked about what would affect the warranty and I was told that I you stay under 2.5" then everything is still covered under warranty but if you go over 2.5" then the only thing not covered was going to be the suspension. I put 2.5 on mine and 35s. He may have told me that to get my money to but thats what I was told by dealership.

I bought my JK to build the way I wanted. The salesperson's reaction when I told him about the mods kind of paved the way... Without knowing what exact mods I would be adding, he started in on the warranty.
I really can't blame him.
I know it will be a real crap-shoot when it comes to getting any warranty work done; particularly with the state of the auto industry right now. I don't want to throw my own money at a problem if I don't have to; but, I have prepared myself for the games that must be played. I honestly don't expect Jeep to pay for anything that may have failed due to the mods I installed. On the other hand, if there is anything that fails that shouldn't have been affected by the mods, I will fight to have it repaired or replaced under warranty.
I don't know it for a fact; but, I suspect that each dealership, or zone, has its own policies about this type of thing. If someone has a warranty issue that is covered by that policy, then there won't be any issues. If, however, the warranty issue falls outside that policy, it may be a lot harder to get it covered. Look at it as a challenge.
Personally, I don't plan on having any service work done by the dealer unless it is something major. I just hate the hassle.
Just my opinion...
Jeff

I don't think there is a 2 1/2 inch "lift limit" for warranty purposes.
Mopar sells a 4 1/2 inch lift (renamed Rubicon Express) and mine had this already installed when I purchased it.
My experiece with earlier Jeeps was that the level of difficulty you will run into is very dealer specfic. Check around your area for an "off-road friendly" dealership. As stated above, the dealership must prove that any damage was causd by the modifications.
