Default Lift Advice

Hey guys. I am currently loving my 2011 JK 2 door mountain edition. I absolutrely love my parenst for getting me it for my 16th birthday. I have about 13000 miles on. So far, I've installed a few mods on it, two IPF Drive lights on the windshield and mirror relocation brackets.

But I want to get a lift on it. I have probably spent a total of 20 hours just trying to research lifts and what I need to do. A buddy of mine works at on off road shop in colorado and he redid his 2000 cherokee atleast 3 times. He made a few mistakes when he installed his lift and has to spend a ton of money to fix it. I dont want to make that mistake.

He told me to make sure that with my lift to get a front and rear track bar, and adjustable control arms. As long as you have those and the other basic things, you should be fine. I don't do that much off roading, mostly driving on the streets in Fort Worth. I have the stock mountain tires which are the same ones as the COD edition. I dont know how long it will be till i can get 33's.

I want a 2.5 to a 3.5 inch lift. So far, I am eyeing the Rusty's off road basic 3.25 lift and the teraflex 2.5 lift. I know i want a coil spring lift instead of a spacer lift. What are some of the key things i MUST have with my lift so I dont screw my car up?

The rusty's basic 3.25 lift comes with springs, shocks, front and rear adjustable track bars, and brake line extension brackets. And its a good price for me right now. I'd love some help on this.

Thanks

anything more than 2.5 on a 2 door and you need to start looking at new drive shafts.

Honestly, I think that is a little overkill if you only want 33''s. That kit would be a great combo if you want to go all out and run 35's and regear you axles. If you only want 33's, one of the simpler 1.5 to 2 inch leveling kits would be fine.

Well that sounds good. I just want to get a coil spring lift. Not a spacer lift. So would just a 2.5 spring by treadles be good?

Sorry. Teraflex** and I don't want to have to do a ton of extra work and regear my axles either.

that's a good choice for your money and just 33's.

So what do I need to have with a 2.5 teraflex lift? Track bar an control arms? Or what?

If I were you I'd look into the teraflex performance leveling kit since you only want to run 33's. It's still a coil lift and will work great for your purpose.

Yeah. But with that I will need more stuff to make it work for a 2 door. I still want that lifted look though too. So I was thinking more of the 2.5 teraflex. But I just want to make sure it has all the parts I need.

Have you found the FAQ's yet? (stickied right at the top of this modified area...) In the suspension section, you will find topics like:

Q: What are all the components that I will need with a 3" lift? (you have a 2door, pay attention to the comments on driveshafts. At 3+", put money aside for both just in case...)
Q: Do I need to install bump stop extensions?
Q: Do I need to buy new shocks if I'm just installing a budget boost?
Q: Do I need an adjustable rear track bar?

This one is HUGE, pay attention to it!!
Q: What is Caster? How much do I need?

DON'T rely on someone else to tell you what 'you' need. Do more research and figure out what all of the different components do, and at what heights you are likely to want to replace them. Also, get your advice from guys that own and mod JK's, not from TJ guys, or YJ guys, or Toyota guys, or...
