Default Lift Height & Caster Angle Question

At what lift height does caster angle become an issue and require new control arms?

Reason I ask is that I have a TF 1.5" performance leveling kit waiting to be installed. The shop wants to do cam bolts(?) but I REALLY don't want to do that Not after doing some research into what that requires and the fact that they can loosen with moderate off-roading.

Can I get away without the control arms at this point with the TF 1.5" kit? Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

You shouldn't need control arms with a 1.5" lift and you definitely do not want cam bolts.

Yes.
You will lose about 1 to 1.5 degrees of caster.
This will put you at the low end of the recommended setting and steering will become more sensitive but it should not be a show stopper.
Lower end 2.5 in. lifts utilize the stock LCA's as a matter of routine.
I would not allow the shop to install cam bolts, they are not very robust specially off-road and they are not needed for 1.5"
Good luck

x3 on not 'needing' caster correction. Plenty of people are driving around with 4 or more inches of lift on stock arms. So add the lift and go drive it, and then decide.

Not needed, and cam bolt setup somewhat permanently modifies your control arm mounting holes on your axle. I have 4 inches of lift with stock arms and steering is pretty flighty and plan on moving to adjustable CA's in future.

Thanks all for the input. I am really hesitant to make permanent mods, such as those needed for cam bolts. I refuse to do it.

I like the advice of testing it and seeing what I need to do after the lift is installed.
I feel pretty stupid for not considering that in the beginning, it makes so much sense, seriously. What can I say, I am a master of common sense.

cheers
