Default Lift Kit Differences

Just sitting here thumbing through the lift kit section of the latest Quadratec catalog and find that one 2.5" lift will clear 33's and then some 2.5" lifts will clear 35's. Then one kit is a 3.5" to clear 35's... Why so many differences in lift height to clear the same size tire? Seems to me if you order a 2.5" budget boost that the pucks would measure 2.5" and if you ordered a 2.5" coil system the coils would be 2.5"s longer than the stock coils. Curious minds want to know.

Some are just pucks that sit atop the spring, some have shocks, some dont...most of the lifts will clear the tires but its a different story when the suspension is flexed.

Well I don't have the best answer but: Some kits level the jeep, 2.5 front and 1.5-2 rear; Some 2.5 coils are 2.5 while some kits you net up to 3.5in, which I guess is to compensate for heavier bumpers, winch and maybe some armor. Others will chime in and correct me if I'm mistaken and will prob give you a better answer.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking through the gallery and like the 2.5" with 33"s. Now my final question would be coils or pucks? Seems to me that with the pucks the top of the springs are well below the metal spring retainer at the top. Just seems as though the springs could pop out if they were really extended. I know Teraflex claims this will not happen with their budget boost. Just looking for some guidance maybe from folks that have had the pucks and then went to springs. Also any pic of a 2.5" with 33's would be great to confirm my decision.

2.5" would be fine for 33's. 2.5" on 35's will clear on street but will rub off road without some trimming of fenders or flat fenders. And yes some manufacturers are very conservative on their lift numbers. Seems the better quality lifts yield more actual lift due to heavier springs and have less issues with sagging over time
