This is also my daily driver, as well as only travel on freeway once a month, about 400 miles roundtrip.
Come down to my neck of the woods and feel free to drive my jeep if your interested.

Out of curiosity, after re-gearing to 5.13 or 5.38s, is it necessary to run a Superchips "performance tune", or do you just use the Superchips to properly set the tire size/gear ratio (and if so, could the AEV ProCal be used instead to save another $150)?

That is $2500-$3000 for tires, wheels, regear, and tuner.

Then, sell stock tires and wheels for $500.

Net cost is now $2000-$2500.

Then either:

Teraflex 2.5" BB--$480
And there you have it, my friends...if only I knew about this forum before I pulled the trigger...

Bigred- Same rig here. DONT run 35s WITHOUT the 513s and the Superchip... you wont be happy.

Arist- You dont have to use the tune but I use the 89 and love the mpg and preformance gains.

The gears are a must for the 35s, no way around them and the Superchip is a must after the tires and gears. You will love it.

Outlaw- Thanks for the advice! If I re-gear to 5.13, this means I have to upgrade my front to Dana44, correct?

No. We are talking about changing the gears in your front D30 and your rear D44 from the stock ratio to 5.13's.

If you have the money, and plan on wheeling semi-hard, replacing the front D30 with a D44 wouldn't be a bad idea, just depends on your budget and use. (Decide on this 'before' you spend money re-gearing the 30...)

How about replacing both with Dana60s or 70s?!

I'm just kidding. Sorta.

Truthfully, with an automatic, 3.73s at highway speeds with 35s and the OD turned off is better than 4.10s with 35s because it puts you at about the same rpm as 5.38s with the OD on.

So, an automatic with 3.73s and 35s with the OD turned off will not overwork the transmission from constant downshifting like a rig with 4.10s or 4.56s does. There is a reason why it doesn't seem to bad.

Still, when you regear to 5.13s--or 5.38s if you install a D44 front axle--I can pretty much guarantee you that you will experience that it was the very best bang for the buck modification you will have done so far.

Until then, keep the OD off and run a Superchips towing or 87 octane tune--directed to the OP.
I totally agree planman! I am runnin 35s with a TF 4" lift and 5.13. I added CAI and exhaust and the get up and go is wonderful! The flashpaq is a must if you do these upgrades but like what has already been said it's well worth it in the end
