Default Lifting my stock JK - What should I do?

I'm new, so I hope this is the right thread.

I'm hoping to put my stock JK Sport 2-door on 37" tires. I was looking at the Rubicon Express 4.5" long arm kit, which should clear the 37"s with the stock fenders. What else will need to be done? Will re-gearing, upgrading the driveshaft and calibrating the spedo be enough? I have a budget of 5,000 and would like to do everything properly.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Are you going to wheel it?
If so a new housing up front or gusset/sleeve/truss that front axle.

Do yourself a huge favor before you even start and wipe the thought of 37 inch tires from your mind. Have you even priced 37 inch tires? Without actually looking prices up you are probably $500 bucks a piece for 37 inch tires x 5 then another say $200 bucks x 5 for wheels to mount them on. So you are looking at $3500 just for the wheels and tires then you have to mount and balance them for another $100 bucks. That leaves you a $1400 budget to add a lift, regear, beef up the front axle, pro-cal, and front and rear driveshafts. Not including costs to install any of the above. If you want to "do everything properly" as stated you need at least another $10k in your budget. Then of course you need some more budget for the other things you would need to actually use it off-road.

All good points. Another option is to go used on your tires and rims. You could save 50%. But I agree, you will still need a little extra money. When you start the build, post it. We would love to see it

If you wanna do it the cheap way and you don't take it off pavement... tire/wheel combo for around 3000-3500, teraflex 2.5 coils lift w/ shocks for 750 installed yourself, 1 inch body lift installed yourself for 100, procal for 150, cut pinch seams/rails/fenders/bumpers for cheap, adjust your steering stops for next to nothing if you get 37x13.5s so they dont rub and don't run a spare tire. This would be the bare minimum and maybe not recommended by many if you do take it offroad.. only if you keep it on the pavement. and if you do take it offroad be careful.

Further down the road when you get more cash and care about your trans/engine/axle.. regear, sleeve and gusset the front axle for protection, keep an eye on balljoints and get a rear bumper/tire carrier for spare.

You'll need to gusset & truss your front end, plus regear, new shafts. Right there your looking at around $2000 in just install for all of that. If you can world you can knock off $700. If you can do gearing then your free on install. Plus the dana30 ring & pinion will be your weak point especially with high gear ratio. So you could potentially look at extra cost down the road with gears breaking prematurely. So you can waste $3000 just getting set up to run 37s. Then like everyone else has said your looking at $3000 for tires & wheels. What I would do is get a shorter lift put 35s under it & get some extras.

You might consider a 2 1/2" to 3" lift and 35's in order to stay closer to your budget. It would still look good and be very capable off road.
