Default Which is lighter?

Gonna put a TF 2.5 lift and wheels and tires on the wifes JK. Will a set of 18" wheels be lighter than a set of 17" wheels and tires. Tire diameter is 33". She is strictly a mall crawler.

if they are the exact same wheel just slightly larger, i would think the 18" would be slightly heavier.

Yes Im thinking exact same wheel and tire just wondering if less rubber is more weight than the extra inch of aluminum.

go to the manufacturer pages of the wheels you are comparing, they will list weight.
then go to the tire manufacturer of your choice and compare the 17's vs 18's. weights will be listed.

just add them up.

tire & wheel weights vary so greatly by size & manufacturer it is almost impossible to make a generic guess.

If you take a look at tire weights you will notice that a lot of times less rubber doesn't always mean less weight. A lot of times when you go from a 17" tire to an 18" tire, you go from a "D" rated tire to an "E" rated tire. "E" rated tires have more reinforcement on the tread and sidewall and are therefore heavier than their 17", "D" rated couterpart. This is also why you usually notice a rather large price jump going from a 17" tire to an 18" tire. That being said, there are some 17's out there that are "E" rated, so you to be sure, you'll probably have to look at it on a tire-by-tire basis.

I did a lot of research on this before i chose wheels/tires for my jeep. In some cases i needed to email for specifics. I recieved a response from everyone i contacted.

I wish i could be of more help, but i have no more acces to mfg. specs than you do. I looked through procomps site, and frankly i am surprised i couldnt find any detailed specs on thier offerings. I find that to be a shortcoming on thier part. I looked for a pdf catalog as generally those are more detailed, but i havent found one yet. If i do, i will point you to it.
