Default Lightest Tire?

Quick question for all you knowledgable folks here on the board. What is the lightest tire going in the 35" flavor today?

My JK is an auto / 4.10 gears and Iam running the 35x12.50/17 procomp xtreme at's on it now. The power is not to bad and I dont want to regear, maybe add a programmer or something and thats is. Its time for tires and I dont want to run a load range D heavy arse tire which seems to be all to common in this size. I know back in the day Mickey Thompson had the baja belted tire that was designed for mostly sand and was wide and light. I need more of an all terrain because this thing sees an awful lot of street (wish it could see more dirt but work comes first...).

Any suggestions would be helpful as I dont want the Jeep to have to feel like its pulling a trailer all the time.

The Goodyear MT/R w Kevlar is pretty light for that size of a tire, something like 20lb lighter than a Toyo (load range C in that size)
Not sure if the Duratecs fall into the same weight range

The BFG KM2s are also amongst the lightest and have great road manners for an MT an comparable to some ATs.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend that you also purchase a Flashpaq.

The lightest 35" MT setup i can find is Dick cepek DC-2 rims in 16x8 size with 315/75/16 km2's. wheel weight is 20 each and tire weight is 64 (as listed on tirerack). that gives you 315/75/16 KM2 setup at 84 pounds each. the 17 inch km2;s with 35/12.5/17 km2;s are heavier. they are 24.5 for the wheels and 68 for the tires or 92.5 pounds each. i looked real hard for a good light MT setup. the km2's with 16's were the lightest i could find.

I know you were asking for 35's, but maybe my set-up can help.

recently purchased pro comp 15x8 1069's at 16 lbs each. mounted bfg a/t ko's 33x10.5x15's at 48 lbs. each.

total weigh per wheel/tire = 64 lbs.

after changing these over from the stock rubi wheels and tires, i absolutely noticed an improvement in steering response and acceleration.

Why in the world would you spend more money switching to new tires than you would regearing?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I have the BFG Muds on my truck and love them so Iam sure I will lean that way when I purchase the new set for the JK.

Planman,

If you read the post it says I would like to stay away from regearing, and I need new tires because the Procomps are worn. Its not that Iam upping the size for fun, it is already lifted and running the 35's just fine, just hoping to lighten the load on the automatic a bit if possible. On top of all that I dont want to spend the money to put 5.13's in the D30 front, I would rather take the $899 and put it towards a D44 front out of a Rubi.

Really good info to know! I have Procomp xtreme MT in a 33" (actually 32.5") and my wheel/tire package is 90lb. Totally wish I would have done more research! I would have went with the km2's in a 35" tire for 2.5lb more!!

Generally a C-Load tire will be lighter than a D-Load will be lighter than an E-Load?

The Goodyear MTR is a C-Load (and one of the only) in 35x12.5x17, my BFG KM2 is D-Load (as are some others), but a lot of 35s are E-Load so you need to be a little careful.

As for having an auto with 35s and not regearing, good luck! I know people do it, but 5.13 gears the best investment I made. Jeep is much more driveable around town and highway. But we'll save that for another thread...

EDIT: Tirerack has weights on their site, under specs... case in point:

Goodyear MTR - C- Load - 64lb
BFG KM2 - D-Load - 68lb
Kumho MT - E-Load - 75lb
