locker problem
i put a tj cage in my rear dana 44 to replace the limited slip, i then put a true-lock in there, after 3 day's it wouldn't unlock and when i openned the dif. three of the four pins of the locker were sheered. does anybody know what caused that
your over my head with this but I do know that there are some differences between the TJ 44s and the JK 44s. Dunno, maybe someone with more experience will chime in. Where did you get everything btw? Did you buy it new?
yes , everything is new. the limited slip it came with doesn't kick in fast enough for rock crawlingso i wanted it locked! nobody could help me except for kamikasy motor sport. the first thing we found out is that you need a low cage to replace the limited slip since you can't put a locker in a limited slip cage! then we put in the locker for the cage and everything seemed fine...for three day. then i was locked all thje time, the pins of the locker sheared and the pieces jamed in the slip plates preventing it from opening up at turrns. anyway we have another one coming and we will reinstall and see. do you know where i can get the specs of the differences between the old and new d-44 it would probably help
i apreciate your help
i apreciate your helpcustom bumper, lockers, discos, skid plates, heavy duty direction bar, dif covers and more isadding up so i'm going with these lockers wich are excellent except for this problem in the bach. my front is no problem so far
If you removed a factory trac-lock and installed an open carrier with a lunchbox locker you probably had no thrust washers to install with the lunchbox locker. Typically you reuse the ones that were in your factory open differential. In the instructions for your locker it should have some measurements you are suppose to take before you close it up to ensure proper operation. If the gap is too large you have to get thicker thrust washers, if the gap is too small you have to get thinner thrust washers. If you had no thrust washers the gap would be too large and could cause the pins to shear.
i didn't know the full case detroit is available up here + tires, winch, inboard air,

I'm not 100% sure but to my understanding the difference in the JK D44 from a TJ D44 is the thickness of the gears. I'm told that all you need is a locker or carrier for a 3.73 and down vice a 3.73 and above. JK gears are thicker than a TJ's. You can probably get more insight by PMing evolution. They do gear swaps on th JK and could tell you more.
We are just wrapping up the installation of 5.13 gears front and rear and Auburn ECTED lockers front/rear in our 2007 X model Wranglers. The installation was straightforward, but there are some things you need to know before cracking those axle open.
Finding parts for your axles is about as easy as fiding wheels, they are out there, but not readily available at most places. We had to get several parts from the dealer. Here is a list:
Dana 44 ECTED Locker (3.73 & Down, our Jeeps use thick gears) $569.95
Dana 30 ECTED Locker (3.73 & UP) $569.95
Dana 44 JK 5.13 Superior Ring and Pinion $229.95
Dana 30 JK 5.13 Superior Ring and Pinion $229.95
Front Crush Sleeve (5183525AA) $1
Rear Crush Sleeve (5066047AA) $10
Front Pinion Nut (4720895) $11
Rear Pinion Nut (sorry lost the part num/price)
Pinion Shim Kit (4856368) <– This works on the front and rear pinion, but just has the .035-.039 thicknesses that we needed, you might need thicker
Front Oil Baffle (68004076AA)

i realy apre ciate the input and i will keep this updated as to wether it fixed the problem thanks hawk
Glad you got to the bottom of the problem. I am very interested to hear how this works out for you. Some questions I have are - Is the open carrier for the JK and the TJ identical? Does installing an aftermarket locker interfere with the stability control or any other system on the JK? Please post your observations.
