Default Locker question

I'm looking into re-gearing my Sport to 4.88 from the stock 3.21. I figured if I was going to go this far I would look into some lockers. I'm curious opinions on brands, and possible general function, and reliability. Also what does it cost to have some of this installed, I don't have the proper tools to do this myself, and I would prefer to have someone who has done it before install it.

Years ago when I still owned my XJ I put a limited slip diff in the rear axle and it really made a difference for me in slick situations. So naturally I would like to put something a little nicer in the rear of this.

A few of my buddies recommended Detroit lockers. Looking at these lockers I can't really see how they are much different than a limited slip diff. Do they really have a solid positive lock with out a switch?

I've also read some fair things about ARB's air locker. For the compressor am I going to need a lot of room? Or perhapse a dual battery set up?

I've not heard much about eatons e-locker, are they quality?

Basically I would like something that is durable and not overly expensive. Also, if I do wind up going with a locker do you guys know if I can buy the console switches (like down where the esp button ect. is) so I don't have to put holes in the interior.

Love my Detroit in the rear, really digs on the trail and on the road its only noticeable making tight turns as it will engage and make a ratcheting sound but its no biggy. Always locked, so easy peasy. Like you said, do it when you do gears to help with labor costs.

You have a d30 front? I am not a fan of running auto-lockers or thousand dollar selectables in them. Consider a detroit truetrac. (or a lunchbox if you want an auto)

For the rear d44, a detroit is a great option. or, if you see any winter weather, consider another truetrac or an arb.

For the compressor, you can mount it anywhere, but under the hood attached to the master cylinder is fairly popular. If you choose the new twin compressor, you'll have to find somepace else though. It is fairly large and heavy.

Living in the Cinci area winter happens, a lot.

I have never had a locker or limited slip in the front, only the back. I've had a couple guys tell me that on the road it messes with steering really bad to have a limited slip in the front. I do spend a good majority of my time driving on the road, so I do need decent performance there.

I'll check out a Detroit locker for the rear.

If I do my math right I'm looking at about 400 for gears, 700 for a locker and probably 400ish for labor to have a 4x4 shop install it?
