The 44 rear reportedly has a larger pinion shaft, so no lunchbox lockers yet. If you chose to install a full locker in the rear it will have to be for the numerically lower (higher geared) gearset. The front Dana 30 should work with past model lockers. Upgrading to actual Rubicon axles from Mopar is an option for around $1400 each. Good luck.

Lockers are important ... consider installing an E-Z or Aussie locker in the front Dana 30 ...
Aussie Locker
Detroit-E-Z-Locker.

Note that driving in the snow could be a real pain in the ass with an auto E-Z locker but they are effective off road ... if that's an issue save your money for a selectable locker.

Having wheeled the Sahara a few times now id actually move the lockers down on the list a bit. The ESP does surprisingly well at keeping your tires from spinning.

The last trip we just went on there was another Sahara JK in our group with Eaton lockers front and rear. At the end of the day he said he felt like he wasted his money on lockers since I went everywhere he went and didn't have anymore trouble.

Obviously lockers are superior to the ESP system and serious wheeling would warrant more of a need for them but I think more people need to see if they even need them.

The Brake Lock Diff(BLD) is the magic that's maximizing your JK working to get you the very best Traction at all times and (getting you Traction without Lockers on stock X's & Sahara's ) and gets them through, up & over most of these tough trails that Rubi's are going.

I have an X with a Aussie Locker up front, but the Rubi is the King of Beers

I wondered this as well. I have a similar X to the poster (only options are AC and gas cap) and wondered if the stock dana 30s would hamper light wheeling. not anything heavy at all. just would suck to get stuck in the snow fooling around cuase of no lockers or anything

I agree that the BLD does an excellent job at keeping the tires turning for light wheeling so unless you start hitting areas where you can not go due to wheel slip I would not bother with a locker. By the way the video you linked to is me and both links are to the same video, I think you wanted to link to these.

Know one is saying that the BLD (sorry I said ESP earlier and knew it was disabled in 4low) will replace the need for lockers. I'm just saying that I was surprised at how well it actually worked and lockers are not as important. A simple 2.5 or 3" lift and 35's is better money spent then on lockers in my opinion. If you wheel this combo and find yourself unable to go where you want because you are not locket then upgrade to the lockers.

Although if you have the D35 rear i'm not sure id put 35's on. If it's as week as the D35 that came in the TJ you will blow it. In that case Id look for a D44 rear first, preferably the rubi 44 since it has 31(I think) spline axles and the locker already, but would consider a standard 44 from a Sahara also. Just depends on what kinda deal you can get.

I have a Rubicon front on the way and it didn't even cost that much with tax. There are a couple of Jeep dealers selling them for less than everyone else. You just have to find them. Whatever "it" is...
